No problem, it will hopefully all pay off when I sort out the remaining issues :-) [import]uid: 5833 topic_id: 4422 reply_id: 16182[/import]
It’s a pretty big project, it started out as a prototype on the PC early last year. [import]uid: 13089 topic_id: 4422 reply_id: 16192[/import]
Well good luck, I fear you are going to need it
Does that mean you already have most of the gameplay decided and the art created or is a lot still up in the air? [import]uid: 5833 topic_id: 4422 reply_id: 16194[/import]
The only thing we’re really hurting for is graphics, trying to recruit some talented people to no avail. Everything is there, gameplay, logic, content, e.t.c… we just have to remove the placeholder graphics and get some decent stuff in there. [import]uid: 13089 topic_id: 4422 reply_id: 16195[/import]
That’s a shame. I guess once you get some videos up showing the game you’ll be able to get more people interested in making art for it. Perhaps it just sounds TOO big as in “I don’t to make are for this project, it seems to big to ever get finished and my art will never see the light of day”. Once you have videos showing just how complete it is I reckon more people will be begging to get their stuff in.
Then there are students, ask around some unis I’m sure there would be some that would love to boost their portfolio. [import]uid: 5833 topic_id: 4422 reply_id: 16199[/import]
Good idea, I’ll contact some universities! [import]uid: 13089 topic_id: 4422 reply_id: 16201[/import]
Just casually remind the students that the job market is crap, everything they’ve learnt is already dated and they will be underpaid and undervalued in whatever job they are lucky enough to find. They will be begging to increase their portfolios [import]uid: 5833 topic_id: 4422 reply_id: 16205[/import]
I’ll contact the relevant departments and point out that at the end of the day, they can’t say no to prospective employers, so they can do the hard work for us! [import]uid: 13089 topic_id: 4422 reply_id: 16208[/import]
Your approach is probably better
I think there is directly proportional relationship with my level of tiredness and my cynical nature. [import]uid: 5833 topic_id: 4422 reply_id: 16212[/import]
I’m the same, I become more of a cynical bastard as I get more sleep deprived!
So, any thoughts on what’s causing the performance issue? Or is it still a “what the hell is causing this” kind of problem? They’re always fun. [import]uid: 13089 topic_id: 4422 reply_id: 16216[/import]
Well it has moved on from a “what the hell” type to the even more fun “I’m pretty sure I know what is causing this however I’m not sure how to fix it type”. Yay.
Basically I think it is simply now to lack of proper culling on my part, I have brought up these issues with Carlos and I am currently waiting to hear back. He is very eager to get them fixed he is just naturally a very busy person.
The main thing I’m trying to find out right now is what does Corona do to displayObjects (and physics objects) when they leave the screen. Do they automatically get set to hidden/deactivated or just left be.
If they are not automatically hidden then I would like them to be as I think that will give quite a speed boost and also them being hidden and managed from Corona end would most likely be a much better version then what I could whip up in pure lua.
I know (well have been told by Carlos) that a bug connected to the new sound system that was causing a huge slowdown has been fixed for the next drop however I don’t know if that’s the same thing that is causing our problems and I don’t have a build to test. [import]uid: 5833 topic_id: 4422 reply_id: 16220[/import]
Here’s my question… Why the heck are you not on the beta tester list for Corona with an NDA??? Clearly there is such a program as it was revealed with Matthew Pringle releasing his Corona Remote app made possible with the new drop that is yet to be released… I do think you should be given the carte blanche… Suggest we all write to Carlos and plead! [import]uid: 11904 topic_id: 4422 reply_id: 16223[/import]
Hehe, well on the one hand I was thinking that I’d like to be on that however on the other hand I’m not all that great with secrets and soon their will be daily builds anyway so we should all be getting the latest and greatest every day. That is ofcourse unless the daily builds are actually staggered so that say a daily build on a friday is actually code that was finished on the monday meaning there would still 5 days worth of beta code etc. This may or not be how it will be done but I doubt it would be as it just sounds like a headache to manage.
[import]uid: 5833 topic_id: 4422 reply_id: 16225[/import]
I think there will always be some NDA shrouded dialogue about new features and direction etc. Suggest you talk about this with Carlos. You having your feet in the door will help improve & align Lime better. [import]uid: 11904 topic_id: 4422 reply_id: 16227[/import]
That is true, next time I get a chance to talk to him I will bring it up. [import]uid: 5833 topic_id: 4422 reply_id: 16230[/import]
Ok so lets get back on topic before you fall asleep… Any sight of 1.8? [import]uid: 11904 topic_id: 4422 reply_id: 16231[/import]
@udesignme:
try deviantart or art conventions, depending on what style you want to go, you can also try anime conventions there are definitely undervalued artists there that could definitely grow with your project [import]uid: 11334 topic_id: 4422 reply_id: 16233[/import]
1.8 is just coming. Just making sure that my attempts to solve the isometric stuff hasn’t killed anything. [import]uid: 5833 topic_id: 4422 reply_id: 16236[/import]
New version is up - http://justaddli.me/downloads/builds/beta/LimeBeta1.8.zip - sorry it took so long, was really hoping to make a dent in the isometric bug before I uploaded it but alas, it kicked my ass and then came back for seconds. [import]uid: 5833 topic_id: 4422 reply_id: 16238[/import]
i hope they can improve the rendering engine to fix this. I know it’s normally the remit of the coder to do optimizations but we don’t have low level access to the GPU etc. It’s becoming a competitive market with other editors/frameworks/API’s either established or in their infancy, but (whilst not an integrated package) I think currently Corona+Tiled+Lime would really have an edge if Ansca can leave issues such as culling etc to be dealt with by the engine, and not the user.
Glad to hear they are working with you on this anyway, Graham
