Corona Cloud is offline ?

Hi All,

Is there are a conclusion to all that is said about Corona Cloud. Is this a finished product or the engineers are still working on it. I have a few games to be published and I dont see any solutions or atleast timelines for the Cloud related issues.

Is there are game already published which uses Corona Cloud.

Thanks,

Karan

I agree. The lua API is still largely undocumented, there are still bugs and the Guides are… well, misguiding. This product is barely at Beta maturity IMO. Despite that, I’m sure many of us in the Corona community would be happy to help beta testing it and perhaps even contribute to making it better, but to do that we need some transparency from you (Corona) guys…

At least tell us what’s going on so we can decide whether to wait for the Corona Cloud to be a stable product or use a 3rd part provider for our next production. We’re paying for your product so I figure at least you owe us that!

Post from a suspected troll hidden while we investigate.

Hi Rob Miracle, I saw you suspended my account. I just wanted to let you know I’m a legitimate developer, I just made my own personal account for posting here because I didn’t want my comments tied to my employers account which is not active on the forum. If you’d like to confirm send me a private message once you restore my account and I’ll give you our company info.
I’m sorry if mentioning competing cloud services was the wrong thing to do, I haven’t posted here before and was just wondering what the right route would be at this time and hoping David, or yourself, might shed some light on it for us.

Thank you in advance.

Carlos

Hello Carlos, thank you for responding. Please send an e-mail to our support address along with the official active Corona user account information/e-mail so we can follow up and restore your account.

I just received this email from Corona’s boss

Dear Corona Developer,

I am the COO at Corona Labs and wanted to send you a message because our records show you have used Corona Cloud at some point in the last few weeks.
I am sorry to say this, but after much tough deliberation we have changed the priority of Corona Cloud internally and will be winding it down over the next 60 days. I know this will come as a surprise and will probably be quite frustrating to you if you have done significant work on it.

It goes without saying that we are refunding any payments you have made for Corona Cloud. But we have also thought hard about how we can reduce the impact of this change. Here is what we are doing:

  1. We are doing our best to support credible alternatives as quickly as possible. In the near future that means fully supporting Google Play game services on both iOS and Android, and other alternatives soon after that.

  2. We are also completely ok with giving you the Corona Cloud code (which runs on AWS), which means you could choose to host your own instance and actually use the same code you have today.

In case you are interested, there are 2 reasons we decided to wind down Corona Cloud:

  1. The execution on this project has not been up to our usual standards and we want to make sure that it does not take away focus from our core business (Corona SDK)

  2. The competitive dynamics have changed and there are now very significant and similar offerings from Google and others (which we plan to support with Corona).

If you have already put in significant work into Corona Cloud please email me back and we will do our best to make things right. I completely understand that you will be upset. I am also happy to answer any other questions.

Finally, we will be announcing this publicly in the next couple of days, but wanted to make sure you heard this first.

Please let me know how else we can help.

Thanks,

David

I am sorry to say this, but after much tough deliberation we have changed the priority of Corona Cloud internally and will be winding it down over the next 60 days

Lol what exactly does “changed priority internally” and “winding it down” mean? Can this be interpreted as “WE ARE SHUTTING CORONA CLOUD DOWN”.

Yup! That’s exactly what it means

Anyone up for hosting the existing and making this either an OpenSource project or even collaborate on making it something else entirely?

anyone using scoreoid?  Examples of that anywhere?

It’s a tempting idea. Perhaps crowdsourcing is the answer.

Hi all, I’ve posted an update on cloud:

http://www.coronalabs.com/blog/2013/06/21/update-on-corona-cloud/

Glitch Games has a library that makes using Scoreoid easier:

https://github.com/GlitchGames/GGScoreoid

I was looking into that but can’t log in to the Scoreoid site with Safari. Or Chrome. Which makes me kind of nervous about the whole thing. But it still may be a good solution…
