Hey Corona Devs,

Could I join the group?

If yes, where is it?

Thanks,

I like this idea and has lots of potential.

However we do have to be aware of the main purpose or what are you trying to accomplish for forming such group. And this has to be clear up front and should always be the focus. I’ve seen so many groups that failed and the common denominator is loosing focus and without any clear goals.

And from what I read so far here’s my take of what people think they are going to get out of the group: (please correct if i’m wrong)

  1. HONEST review/rating and lots of it.

HONEST review is very important we all agree on that, reviews and feedbacks let us know as a developer, what needs to improve or what’s already working and feed on that. And this is why I think this group has very good potential and I think the most realistic purpose for the group.

One by-product of such group is to get your app noticed and maybe go viral if its good enough.

In terms of helping your app to get good ranking in the store, we all know it takes a lot more than ratings/reviews to get good ranking, although its one of the major factor. However it’s only a factor if its legitimate. Google/Apple has top level -top secret algorithm to check for several factors for its legitimacy. Not to mention they also do human assessment randomly or otherwise. However we can deduce some of the factors with some common sense.

Here’s one big thing that Google checks for and I’m sure Apple as well. Each device has its own unique Id so the app stores knows which device downloaded, installed, and uninstalled the app. So if an app was downloaded 100 times, rated 100 times (doesn’t matter if its 1 star or 5 stars) but only has 10 active install and 90 uninstall after a few days or weeks. How much ranking points do you think it’ll get? And there’s other factors such as “stickiness” or how much the user actually uses your apps on a daily basis. Ansca even have this particular analytics right in launchpad. It shows you exactly on average the time(in seconds) the user spends using your app and how many times. Other things like diversity (where are the ratings coming from). Many more factors plays a major role for checking for legitimacy of a rating system and I only mention a few.

I only mention this so that members will not have wrong expectations or high expectations. Because we know that if expectations are not met even just a fraction of it, members wont be happy. We all know what will happen to a group with unhappy members.

I guess all I’m saying is have clear goals and focus which will give members clear expectations. Like I said in the beginning, this has lots of potential.

With that said, I’m in and sign me up!

@Regie: Welcome to the group! I agree with you totally. When I started this thread, the idea was to get at least 5 reviews/ratings at app launch time. It did not make sense to me that Corona made apps were not getting at least 5 reviews knowing how large the Corona community is.

Frankly, it was not meant even to add reviews/rating to past/older apps but to boost newly released apps since the 5 reviews/ratings seems to be a required minimum.

I am not sure how helpful to sales a bunch of new reviews makes to older apps since I will think that they will still buried among those 500K+ apps on the app store.

On the other hand, 5+ reviews on newly release apps I would think will be more helpful to their authors.

So ,yes the goal was not to deluge every Corona app with 100’s of reviews but to give new release Corona apps a fighting chance.

Again welcome on-board!

Hi guys,

To remove any confusion, I am now going to have a new user ID : LairdGames

But do not worry, I am still the same Mo;). I had to do that because I am almost done with my app so I join the rank of indie today!

Cheers.

Hey Mo, congrats on Indie! Nice to see you lose the “Test Driver” tag

Looking forward to seeing your first app on the store. [import]uid: 52491 topic_id: 24220 reply_id: 102381[/import]

Thanks Peach! Yes I feel lighter now:) It is also scary. I was very comfortable dealing with building for my devices but now it looks like I am going to have to graduate to app ad hoc and dist provisioning. SCARY!!!

Thank you for helping me all these past months, I really appreciated that. I am sure I am going to have a lot problems setting the app for testing (ad hoc) and then for distrubtion but I am confident that this wonderful community will come to the rescue as always.

Wish me luck:)
Mo [import]uid: 100814 topic_id: 24220 reply_id: 102385[/import]

Haha trust me adhoc and dist isn’t too bad - I have a walkthrough on it in Device Builds sub forum

No worries RE the help, always do what I can.

Let me know if you have any trouble

Good luck!

I just sent a request to join group - very interested in this! [import]uid: 87791 topic_id: 24220 reply_id: 102582[/import]

Hey guys, I’m interested in joining the group as well. Would it be possible to set this up for doing reviews on the Amazon app store as well, or is this just limited to the Apple store? I know a lot of us have apps on Amazon that could use some more reviews! [import]uid: 82194 topic_id: 24220 reply_id: 103445[/import]

Hey David. Welcome! Absolutely, when I proposed this group, it was with the goal to help any Corona developer be it a iOS developer or Android since Corona is a multi-platform tool. So yes if the members have an android device then they can help you review your game.

Hope this help.

This is a great idea! I sent in a request to be a member. Just released our game so it would be great to get some traction and reviews! It’s already a free game, ad supported.

The community is honestly one of the reasons I wanted our company to get into Corona. [import]uid: 97023 topic_id: 24220 reply_id: 104650[/import]
