Flurry support w/ iOS7

I agree, I got this email from them:

Dear Flurry user,

Flurry has been busy preparing to help with your transition to Apple iOS 7, which will launch soon. Please follow the steps below to update your Flurry SDK before iOS 7 becomes publicly available. If you do not update to Flurry’s latest SDK (version 4.2.3), the quality of your Flurry Analytics data could be negatively impacted.

Here are the steps to upgrade your SDK:

  1. Download the latest version of Flurry’s SDK (version 4.2.3) here.
  2. Include Apple’s Security Framework and also link Apple’s Ad Support Framework in your build process.

We have developed an FAQ to answer questions related to this update. Additional questions can be directed to support@flurry.com.

Thanks for taking the time to update your app!

The Flurry Team

I’m wondering if it is really as “critical” as they say it is?

From their FAQ:

http://support.flurry.com/index.php?title=Analytics/FAQ/4.2.3_update&utm_source=hs_email&utm_medium=email&utm_content=9975548

What happens if I don’t update my SDK?

  • Apps not using Flurry SDK version 4.2.3 may experience irrevocable data integrity issues.
  • AppSpot users will not be able to earn revenues on iOS 7 devices
  • AppCircle advertising campaigns will be paused until the SDK or Install Notify API integration has been updated for those apps.

From what I understand, you will lose partial or complete analytics data.  That’s pretty important.

Flurry support in Corona seems to be behind typically by a major version.  Would be nice to see it brought up to date, especially with iOS 7 coming out.

The last two don’t seem too important, but the first one seems critical enough depending on what becomes “irrevocable”…

I agree – this is a very significant issue.  I’m sure the Corona staff is already looking at this, and I look forward to hearing what the plan is.

I use Flurry in nearly all my apps, and wouldn’t like losing any analytics data for sure…

+1.

The engineers are aware of this.

+1 and please add error logging and version support. 2 major features of the Flurry interface.

  • setAppVersion:

Explicitly specifies the App Version that Flurry will use to group Analytics data.

  • logError:message:error:

Records an app error.

Daily #1190 seems to update Flurry SDK to 4.2.3. Thanks much CL for responding to this need in a timely manner. Wondering if the previously missing features are now supported.

Yes, we updated the version of the Flurry API baked into the Corona SDK to 4.2.3 and have confirmed that it works on iOS 7 beta.

If you’d like more features of Flurry supported you should ask them to create a fully fledged plugin for their API.

Nice thanks!

Getting them to do a plugin would likely be easier coming from you guys rather than just a handful of developers here who actually go through with contacting them.  You could provide them a trial to Enterprise which they would need to do plugins, and links to the necessary resources they would need.  Otherwise, it’s not likely going to happen.

From experience we know if they don’t see demand from their customers, they wont make it a priority.  If they ask us, as many companies have, “how do I build a Corona plugin?” then we will happily set them up with what they need.

That’s likely why there isn’t one yet.  The amount of people who would actually take the time to contact Flurry would be tiny.

Just curious if anyone with an Enterprise account could build a Flurry plugin, or does it need to come from devs at Flurry.

This scenario is becoming a repeating Catch-22 problem:  3rd party develops cool, useful technology/service, but the Corona SDK user marketplace is too small for them to spend resources developing a specific Corona plugin.  The Corona market interest in the 3rd party will by nature remain small since no one can use their technology since the plugin doesn’t exist!   Since most users of Corona are not Enterprise we are relegated to staring in through the glass window at something delicious we can’t quite get our hands on.

I guess the only way out of this is to hope that the Corona plugin “marketplace” actually happens and enterprising Enterprise users create plugins for these services so we can all use them in our apps.

It could be anyone, but only small percentage of Corona users are Enterprise, and even smaller yet want to build plugins for the community.  On top of that, the marketplace isn’t online yet.to even distribute them.  The prices I am hearing thrown around for plugins is rather steep and re-occurring for things that should be already available.

I will also mention Amplitude as a possibility for me to jump over to if they don’t show interest in this. Nothing like a little competition to move an otherwise unmoving entity.
