From The Blog: Keep Calm and Corona (the game engine, no relation) On!

can’t using admob plugin

Hi-- didn’t intend on posting off-topic on this thread but I had raised this issue on the Mac forums some days back and there wasn’t a response (understandable as this is a busy period of transition for the Corona staff) but it is a major issue so I’m posting here:

The latest Corona builds seem to have some issues with creating Mac builds. The builds get done without errors but cannot be run. The most recent version which is still able to create runnable mac builds seems to be 3569. It would be helpful if someone could check this out-- it’s probably something minor.

Other users have reported this problem too on the Mac forums

thanks

I experience same issue …  build for MacOS builds instantly…   try to run the app and crashes.

I believe 3569 was the last time I could build and successfully run the MacOS version

Could you please create a separate thread about macOS issues, I’ll answer there, do not hijack other threads, sine it seems to be a separate issue.

Sorry, raymondcheng, AdMob is a paid plugin for now. Later we will put all our plugins on GitHub for free. It will not be free purchase from the store. Later builds (closer to may) would be able to automatically download the plugin and use it from the github. It is not yet done.

Hi!

Any news on the current status after May 1? The date is getting closer, and I don’t feel that I really know what’s going on or what the status of Solar2D will be after that date.

Last post in this thread is a couple of weeks old. If there are more recent updates to find elsewhere, please point me in the right direction because I don’t really know where I should be looking…

What about building our apps for iOS/Android? Is that already taken care of and will the process look any different than it does now?

And what about funding? What are the funding goals and how are things looking right now? Do you need more money right away to keep going? Or will the current funds last for a while? I feel completely in the dark on this, but maybe you’ve already shared some more information that I haven’t seen?

Speaking for myself, I’m currently sponsoring the amount that I feel I can afford right now. However, if my upcoming game starts generating some revenues I’m definitely prepared to increase that amount if I have to. But to do that I also need to know that my money will actually help Solar2D stay alive and improve. That’s why it’s so important to know what the funding goals are. I’m not really interested in putting potentially thousands of dollars into a project that I have no way of knowing if it has any chance of being successful or not. Hope you understand what I’m getting at. I don’t mean to be rude in any way, but I you want our money you have to tell us how much you need and what it will be used for.

Exact same thoughts here… The entire focus SEEMS to have moved to the rebranding while the earlier impression that was given was that the priority is to make the technical aspects of the transition to offline builds as seamless as possible-- sadly, there is no news on that-- not on the forums at least and certainly not on the website.

There are others who have posted requesting some clarity on the funding requirements as well and our team too will really appreciate some details on what’s going to happen after 10 days. As of now, we can’t even say for sure if we’d be able to continue building or not and whether these forums and website/ builds etc will still be accessible.

We have been talking to our investors as well and are quite willing to offer serious support to any funding initiatives but I dare say that it all seems a little disorganised when there’s not a word about the most central aspect of this transition with just 10 days to go.

It is not that the focus is on rebranding. You need to understand that there are two distinct groups of people.

First, you have the people from Corona Labs, like Vlad and Rob, who are working hard on making the necessary changes to the build systems, open sourcing the first party plugins, setting up the next iteration of the forums/website, etc. Basically making sure that everything is ready to go when the time comes.

Then you have the community, i.e. people who cannot contribute to the aforementioned as they don’t have access to said data/code/information. The community is a much larger and a muuuch louder group. While they/we cannot contribute to the actual work done so far, they/we can and do have an opinion on the rebranding and what the future should look like.

So, keep in mind that the loudest voices about the rebranding are coming from the community and not from Corona Labs.

I understand that but tbf this is about the biggest change Corona is about to undergo and unless I’m mistaken, May 01 was conveyed as a certain date when the transition must be made so with only 10 days to go, it would be better to have a little clarity on what the new processes are going to be for people to continue using Corona/ Solar2D and also if they’ve managed to work out some funding goals.

The general feeling was that substantially greater funds will be required for the new model to work than what they’ve had come in through GitHub and any other places where Vlads may have been accepting funds from so in order for people to help, a little more details (which I hope they would have worked out by now) will go a long way.

For the new initiatives to be successful, my personal opinion is that by this point in time, there should have been more information on not just the forums but other media too about what the future holds-- there are new people I see who are still taking up Corona SDK each day and there’ll be many more than just those few that are active here that could help if they are reached out to… just my two cents.

Hello everyone. Indeed it was quite a while without any announcements with the deadline looming.

First of all, I already drafted the announcement, and planning to put it on soon. But for now, I’ll answer some questions here:

Indeed. Rebrand is a great way to involve the community. It is something which does not require much deep knowledge of the engine insides, and community shines with concepts and ideas. I’m very proud. It also leaves space for me to focus almost solely on making sure that your projects would keep working and that you don’t have to migrate your projects, regardless, would it be Corona Simulator or Solar2D Simulator. I am sure everything would be in place for the deadline, at least in beta state. Products would be as good as they ever are, build process may have some edge cases, but I am confident we’ll fix it very swiftly.

Fundraising is going good. Next email/announcement would have direct calls for support and crowdfunding links. It is already very close to the line which I would consider minimal to continue working on corona full time without looking for another job to pay bills.

BTW, as for community participation. Feel free to vote on Solar 2D logo.

That sounds really promising Vlad, keep up the good work!

Is there a way to contribute (through github) a 1 payment-bonus ? I guess funds are needed for setup cost. I am currently in the github monthly payment.

@vlad Please definitely let the community how the funding is going. I think it’s important that you can focus fully on this rather than having to juggle other commitments.

Vlad

Use the days that are left of this site to ASK for funding and GitHub sponsorship.

Don’t be shy and don’t burry it in a big announcement.

Between last blog post and now, there should have been a few posts titled

“Reminder: we need your help for Corona to survive”

Use the precious time and the exposure of this site to long time devs.
