iOS 5 New Sound and Music Problems!!!

Hey, Eric (assuming ewing is Eric), about filing bug reports with Apple, I think I saw elsewhere on the forum you posted something about referring to (i.e., including) a couple of specific audio related case #. I assume these case numbers are tracking number within Apple bug system. Will you post them here too.

I’ve never filed bug reports with Apple, and the thought of doing it makes me a bit nervous, but I think this is extremely important bug that should be fixed, so I’ll try filing a bug report about the audio issue (which in turn triggers the physics issue) and mention that the issue is related to their internal bug case numbers.

ingemar: Two points. First, your other post, I interpreted your description as a startup latency, not a persistent thing. Also, it was not clear to me that this was not already in 645. (The Apple bug causes all sorts of different problems.)

Second, when I say ‘report’, I mean bug report. I don’t always (usually don’t in fact) see the forum posts. And we need a bug report that has sample code we can run telling us how to reproduce the case. I have not personally seen what you are describing. So I need to know exactly which device and OS version and I need your program and exact media files.

Please do post bug report numbers on the forum so when I do encounter these forums, I can look up the bug.

Naomi: You MUST file bug reports with Apple if you want the bugs fixed. Don’t be intimidated. The Apple engineers are cool about this. They like bug reports. Apparently I am known in some circles at Apple because of the numerous bug reports I have filed (probably over 500). One team has actually thanked me for all the detailed bug reports. And they actually fix my bugs (sometimes).

Just be be polite and give them as much information as you possibly can.

Duplicate bugs can be shorter and you can refer to the existing bug number, but you should still strive to provide information in case you have additional info they didn’t know about.

I have bug 10295329 for this iOS 5/OpenAL bug. In this one case, you don’t need to be too detailed. Just letting them know you are using Corona is probably good enough in this case. (If we can get enough brand recognition for Corona at Apple, it might make bug reporting easier for us in the future.)

Eric,
Yeah, English is a stupid language full of possibilities for misinterpretation… We should start writing our forum posts in Lua instead…

Even though it’s a non-issue with iOS 5.1 beta, I’ll file an official bug report regarding 5.0.1 if you wish. The test app will be the one I have in the Ansca showcase. If you need a promo code, I’ll provide one in the bug report.

Hey Eric, I filed a bug with Apple. Apple Bug ID# 10520420. Hopefully, it’s sufficient enough.

@ingemar ,

Thank you for the info.

I really appreciate your help.
Unfortunately the problem is under Apple side and not our.

Cheers!:slight_smile:

@ewing
If all the audio-workarounds in Corona SDK 2011.700 are disabled when running on iOS 5.1, then the good news is that it looks like Apple have fixed these problems in the 5.1 beta. All audio-issues I have encountered before are gone when compiling with build 700 and running on iOS5.1 beta. Also I haven’t seen any problems when running a .700-build on iOS 3.x and 4.x.

However a .700-build when run on iOS 5.0.1 does have an issue as I mentioned before. I will write a bug-report once I get back home after my weekend trip with my wife.
Also, I just got a new desktop with OSX Lion (10.7.2) and I noticed that there is the same type of freeze/stutter issue in the Corona Simulator (regardless of Corona build it seems). This issue is not present when running the Corona Simulator on SnowLeopard (10.6.8).

NOTE: I tried the audio-buffer thing-a-ma-jig in your post that Rodrigo referenced, but no luck for me regarding the .700-build/5.0.1 or Lion/Corona Simulator issues…

Again… I will write a bug report with demo app when I get home.

Hey,@ingemar, thank you for posting the details on how .700-build performs on iOS2.1, iOS 3.x and 4.x, plus how it does on iOS 5.0.1. I totally appreciate you posting your test results.

@ewing:

Sorry for any confusion in my previous posts…

I’ve filed a bug report regarding the 2 issues I mentioned in post #28.
Case ID #10278. I submitted a demo app together with the bug-report with further information about these issues.
