I have to say right now, porting to android is a very good idea. The reason has nothing to do with ads or comparative sales but third party stores.
The Nook store for example has only about 400 apps, but up to 5 million devices out there.
Toshiba just launched a store for their Thrive tablets - We’re talking 5 to 10 million devices there. Only a few hundred apps.
The Amazon Kindle Fire is about to be launched.
Samsung have their own app store in some teritories.
Motorola have a new app store in China.
Sony have an Xperia Store.
Huawei have their own store in some teritories.
Korea has strict app rules which means Android Market is not an option.
Right now _everyone_ is trying to take advantage of the fact that third party sores are possible on android. Granted a lot of them may not succeed, but the visibility, limited competition, and subscriber to app ratio on some of these stores is absolutely unbelievable.
To start with at least you could make 10’s of thousands of dollars on a few of the stores. Another perfect example of this is getjar gold. They offer your app for FREE, but pay you $0.20 per download! With less than 100 apps currently available, and most having downloads of 2000 in their first few days and 5000 to 10,000 after a couple of weeks its a no brainer!
