Level editor for CORONA with Physic support

Hi Michael,

So - i don’t know how Lime is doing it - but what i do is just read the level file and create all the data in CORONA - so all the cooling is done by CORONA and for sure that is strong enough. There is a scrolling example in the CORONA (Director) project that is posted on LevelHelper website - but that is not very complex.

Kind regards,
Bogdan

Sorry - i have no other tutorials yet - right now im working to finish SpriteHelper 1.5 that will bring concav shape support for physic and also ability to add holes in the shape (example in Corona project from LevelHelper website) as this is a must need feature if you want to create a great game with great physics simulation.

After that (so in a few days) i will start making a full game tutorial for all of you guys.

As a note - what do you prefer - video / text or combination of two ?

Kind regards,
Bogdan

My humble opinion:
Text with sample files is all that’s needed. Video tutorials are great, but sometimes the timing is horrible. :stuck_out_tongue:

If there is a video, maybe only of the final product and/or maybe some of the trickier sections. [import]uid: 50410 topic_id: 9668 reply_id: 35691[/import]

Hey,

I think the best will be - show video for how to use the apps - as some of the stuff can be hard to explain on paper - and write down the coding part for the game. Will do it soon - till then - don’t hesitate to contact me if you need help - i will be updating the example projects if needed with more details

Kind regards,
Bogdan

Cool product Vladu - just bought a license for it and SpriteHelper.

Keep up the good work

Thanks for your quick response.
I’ve bought spritehelper (very good for the price but i’ve experienced a few minor bugs
I’m testing your corona example and if I’m satisfied, i will buy levelhelper as well.
Does levelhelper supports tilemapping? Would be great for large background building.

Hey Michael,

I know, i’m very dissappointed on the state of the current version of SpriteHelper. I have talked with a lot of people and conducted a beta campaign. All the issues have been resolved in v1.5 - i also introduces concave shapes and holes (look at Director example) -

Yes you can do that in LH - but not sure its how you expect it.
You can arrange sprites on a predefined distance. One way is to use Clone and align - another way is to set your grid to the size you want the tile to be and then select snap - and it will snap the sprites on the predefined value (you can see the snap points it you do - show snap points)
Here im talking about LevelHelper 1.2 which Apple still didn’t release :frowning:

Best regards,

The flickering I am talking about is just an optical illusion between the stones that are used as a road for the cart demo you created. I have tried in in Corona simulator, Xcode sim, and on two iDevices. All have the same results. Everything else in the scene looks great as it scrolls.

Maybe this isn’t even related to your level builder, maybe it has to do with the dimension of the pictures used, or anti-aliasing, or any number of things I am not familiar with yet.
I am assuming a side-scroll can look fluid, without this jumpiness of the edges of the tiles. Is that true? [import]uid: 47723 topic_id: 9668 reply_id: 35785[/import]

Hey,

For sure you are correct - it may be from how the blocks are positioned. But can you send a screenshot as its seems I’m blind

Thank you,
Bogdan [import]uid: 38119 topic_id: 9668 reply_id: 35829[/import]

A screenshot would not show it because, it only occurs when it is scrolling. Shimmering is a better word to describe what I am seeing.
Using your example “LevelHelper CORONA Presentation.zip”, the one with a cart and basketballs for wheels, the shimmering shows up between the stone blocks when it is scrolling left. The cart is rolling right the whole time. The shimmering stops as soon as the scrolling of the stone road stops. Does anyone else see this? [import]uid: 47723 topic_id: 9668 reply_id: 35887[/import]

Hey,

Does this also reproduce in Director example ?
I think when i clone the stones (because you drag one stone in the level and then do a clone and align - and you set the distance on which a stone should be cloned) - i let a 1 pixel distance between the stones - and this may be the case why you see shimmering - will update the level in T - 5 hours  - and will leave a message here so you can try and see if its still reproducing for you.

Kind regards,
Bogdan

@ flyingaudio: Yes I see what you mean by the shimmering, its just the one pixel gap, close the gap and everything is solid. Just a drawing issue but with an easy fix  [import]uid: 33866 topic_id: 9668 reply_id: 35891[/import]

Will fix it.

Also - i’ve decided to make the app license based.
What that means for you?

Faster updates!!! (every day if needed)

Don’t worry - all people who bought the app from Mac App Store will get a license key.

(but this will take a month or so)
[import]uid: 38119 topic_id: 9668 reply_id: 35893[/import]

So i looked into that shimmering thing - its because of the texture i use - the rock has a slight light effect on it - that’s why when the camera move it looks a little weird. [import]uid: 38119 topic_id: 9668 reply_id: 36038[/import]

Yes all the moving grey stones shimmer as do the brown bridge blocks - badly on Corona iPhone simulator, much less if simulator is set to iPhone 4 [import]uid: 8366 topic_id: 9668 reply_id: 36042[/import]

Indeed - that because of the texture file - i have to change that in Photoshop - so its not a CORONA issue nor a LevelHelper issue
[import]uid: 38119 topic_id: 9668 reply_id: 36044[/import]

That’s good to know, thanks for these great tools! [import]uid: 8366 topic_id: 9668 reply_id: 36045[/import]

I will fix the textures in the demo - but that is not my priority right now - as now i’m trying to move my apps away from AppStore so i can deliver updates more frequently so you should not wait 2-3 weeks for an update. [import]uid: 38119 topic_id: 9668 reply_id: 36047[/import]

Strange he used www.spritehelper.com because the app is TexturePacker

and he already has www.texturepacker.com [import]uid: 8366 topic_id: 9668 reply_id: 36049[/import]

Well, i don’t find it strange - but i find it immoral. [import]uid: 38119 topic_id: 9668 reply_id: 36050[/import]
