Maps

It’s a time and resources issue. We literally have no one available to work on this right now. Even if you offered to pay us to do it. That’s just how crazy busy we are right now. We’re trying to resolve this by hiring more developers at the moment and also moving features into plugins so that 3rd parties can develop features so that we don’t have to.

That said, I’ll pass your request along to a higher power again to make sure it stays fresh in their minds. That’s the most I can do for you at the moment. [import]uid: 32256 topic_id: 24293 reply_id: 134251[/import]

"…and also moving features into plugins so that 3rd parties can develop features so that we don’t have to."

THAT is the best thing I’ve heard from Corona Labs in a long time!

I hope you didn’t misspeak, or me misunderstand, or it was supposed to be a secret and now you get fired.

Jay

PS - Of course, it’s only awesome if it’s available for non-Enterprise peeps.

Walter referred to this as “add-ons” on the following blog post…
http://www.coronalabs.com/blog/2012/11/13/corona-setting-a-higher-standard/

So, no, I’m not getting fired over this.

The reason we’re adding support for add-ons/plug-ins is that we’ve recognized that we can’t keep up with all of the demands that we’re receiving now. Especially in a timely manner. So, at this point, we believe the best route to go is to have 3rd parties develop features that other Corona developers can use. This way, Corona Labs can focus on “core” features that everyone can use, including plugin developers, and focus on supporting as many devices and mobile OS versions that we can… which I believe is what we do best and is currently our focus today. In any case, that’s my 2 cents.

Joshua,

Can you tell me when you expect it (“selected marker” touch event) to be availible?

Greetings
John. [import]uid: 164820 topic_id: 24293 reply_id: 134028[/import]

There’s no ETA yet.
We have to finish our current commitments first before we make new ones. [import]uid: 32256 topic_id: 24293 reply_id: 134056[/import]

Joshua,

Is it possible to get the touch event in the next release? I have no problem paying some extra for it. Doenst have to be all fancy yet.

Can you email me about it.

Thanks.

Hi Joshua,

Keep me in the loop, We also try to offer them to pay to have this functionnality, but they did not want to do it faster for this reason. Maybe if we are more people/companies they will consider doing it faster.

Hi,

The maps integration is great, and really simple to integrate however to be *really* useful to me I’d love it if just one simple API call could be added - getCenter() to complement setCenter(). Ideally of course an event-driven model alerting to map pans and zooms would be even better but for now a simple call to be able to get the current map centre would be incredibly helpful. I’ve got a couple of projects in the pipeline I can’t even start until this feature, or something similar, is available.

Is there a way I can add this to an official “wish list”?

Thanks for a great product.

The best way to bump up the feature is go to our feedback page and add/vote on the feature.

Is the MapView feature broken in the newer daily builds? I am using build 2013.1003 and my app runs find in the simulator and XCode simulator. But when I test on my device (iPod Touch, iPad2 and iPhone5) the app crashes when loadin the screen with the MapView. I already submitted a bug report, but no word yet. Has anyone experienced this problem?

I am running OSX 10.8.2, XCode 4.6

Thank you,

Is getAddressLocation broken?
I’m testing with Xcode simulator and on device (ios 6, iphone4s) and is constantly returning 0/0 as lat/lon.
I’ve also tried with the MapView example in corona example folder and is doing the same thing. [import]uid: 9158 topic_id: 24293 reply_id: 145727[/import]
