Could someone clarify something for me…
I’d like to know if “Push Notifications” might include some kind of “Wake Up” timer for an app… not necessarily data being pushed from a server. That is, might it include a way to have the native OS launch an app at a certain time (and with no internet connection required)? I would like to develop a simple alarm clock functionality for an app idea I have and thus want to know if this kind of “wake up” functionality will be included in the “Push Notifications” that the (brilliant, talented, add more flattering compliments here) Corona Team is planning to implement?
Extra points if you say yes.

Any news on push notifications (without pubnub) for iOS.
Any have a direct link to Carlos’s blog about this?

+1 on this – I’m coming up with more and more scenarios where push notifications are necessary.
This would be *very* nice to have.

Push notifications and badges are invaluable to many types of apps. It would be great to see these iOS native-level functional components available in the Corona SDK sooner than later.
@duneunit: I have a similar idea and was wondering the same things… [import]uid: 72317 topic_id: 7853 reply_id: 56305[/import]
I would say wait for IOS 5. The whole notification system is changing dramatically. [import]uid: 84637 topic_id: 7853 reply_id: 56926[/import]
for now I would already glad if we would have a PUSh Notification on iPhone
or just the option that a Timer keeps running in the background and would allow
us to create a alert popup.

We absolutely need a real push notification feature for our next game!
By “real” I mean a push that can be received by a server and wakes up the app to provide a notification.
Until this is implemented I keep looking at Moai as a possible Lua solution to this. [import]uid: 87324 topic_id: 7853 reply_id: 58576[/import]
Any update on the push notification? I would love to have this feature too. Thx. [import]uid: 4992 topic_id: 7853 reply_id: 60710[/import]
IOS 5 was released today so thats the first step in seeing this become a reality. A lot has changed internally in IOS 5 so just hang tight guys [import]uid: 84637 topic_id: 7853 reply_id: 60712[/import]
Looking forward to it! =) [import]uid: 70056 topic_id: 7853 reply_id: 61401[/import]
1+ , Need it for my next App [import]uid: 12632 topic_id: 7853 reply_id: 65224[/import]
Any status update on Push?
This is important for a lot of what we need to do! Thanks

It becomes annoying… C’mon guys, with iOS 5 Game Center and push notification is easy as never been! Is it some kind of company policy to push us for Android? [import]uid: 12704 topic_id: 7853 reply_id: 71853[/import]
the daily builds are a great way for us to “push” out new features.
have you seen how many stuff we “push” out on the daily builds?
when push is ready to be pushed we will push it out and let you know.
it is not that we are holding back the feature for one reason or another, mostly, when we don’t push out a feature on the daily build it is because it is not working as designed, fails a series of test, and or crashes the app left and right.
we aim to provide you with stable daily builds as well. and we are code freeze right now - giving us also time to ‘figure out’ why some things are buggy and if we can squeeze it in for release we will.
but remember, we are releasing in a few days, then back to ‘daily builds’ as usual.
the kindle fire and even nook builds went off without major clusterf… it is something you would expect from us, and the same i expect from my engineering and qe team before we post buggy/crappy/code.
imagine if we did that on a regular basis… push out features that crash the product left and right. how many of you would then trust corona?
i know, i been there. i am there. am an engineer just like you guys.
thanks for your patience.

Thank you Carlos.
I wasn’t aware there is a major release pending. Where would I track this type of information and what is slated to be included in it?
I just read the roadmap pages in detail.
It’s interesting that Corona supports business users and game developers. Two very different populations.
I care as an example about calendar integration but friendly collisions, not as much!
Having sent over 15 years at public software companies, working as an engineer and an executive I see a lot of promise in Corona! You’ve come a long way in a very short time! Thanks and keep up the great work / keep the quality, tested features coming!
I’m enjoying learning Corona at and have begun recommending it. [import]uid: 100134 topic_id: 7853 reply_id: 71953[/import]
FWIW - on Android:
http://android-developers.blogspot.com/2010/05/android-cloud-to-device-messaging.html
It’d only work on 2.2 or higher. But that’s certainly ok.
http://developer.android.com/resources/dashboard/platform-versions.html
That’ll cover 85%+ of Android.
+1 _please_ for this.
It does have server requirements. You don’t have to support that. Just have a push sample app for subscribers. Then, we could “notify” the app from Ansca’s website. If there are fees for testing it, maybe limit it’s use to like twice a day or once a day, but publish the server side code in PHP or something. Carlos-
Thanks again for holding this focus. I can’t stand it when companies rush to get new features out and end up with buggy software. I developed using Flash since 97, and the last few releases of that software made me crazy. CS4 crashes every time I use it, now, and is bloated beyond reason. (Hard to say since I was once a die-hard Adobe fan.)
I can’t believe how quickly you push out new features in daily builds that are so stable. I was actually thinking of writing and telling you guys “Hey, whoa! Slow down!”
I am now just a few weeks from releasing 2 apps-- 1 for a client, and the other a game-- and if Corona wasn’t as solid as it is, I can only imagine how much longer it would have taken me.
I want push notifications, too: When the feature is READY.
That said… heh… if you have the extra resources (and I imagine you don’t right now)… +1 it a few times fer me, eh?
All in all: THANK YOU! Your product is making my career a lot more fun and satisfying!
