Just to let you all know this is also a problem with display.newText.
I just posted a new bug concerning altering the text size on the iPad 3 specifically.
On my iPad 2 ( a non-retina device) and my iPod Touch 4th generation (a retina device)
this bug does not exist but on an iPad 3 if you try to change the text size after the display.newText has been called the text size on-screen appears to revert to small text (i.e. non-retina text).
Maybe this will help the Corona guys find this and correct it.
