Sounds help

Are you asking if you can steal someones song because they are not known?

I’m just joking here.  But you ‘could’ read the question that way.

You need to license the work regardless of how popular or known someone is.

As far as “Sounds that are available online on various sites…

All of these sites have license statements and if they do not assume you cannot use them.

Okey. I am not talking about songs only here

But I got your point (site licensing terms)

Hi @ivan888,

Eric Matyas supplied the background music for our “Star Explorer” tutorial project, and he offers dozens of other free tracks for your use (donations appreciated, I’m sure!).

What the heck does “funny black man sounds” mean?

Thanks Ed.

I mean “yo”, “damn girl”… things like that

Why not check out https://marketplace.coronalabs.com?

There is some incredibly good audio there. Yes, it will cost you, but some of these packs are loaded. Yes, you might need to spend $30 now, but for your next game, you will likely have the music you need.

Look at:

https://marketplace.coronalabs.com/asset/ultimate-game-music-collection

https://marketplace.coronalabs.com/asset/mega-game-music-collection

https://marketplace.coronalabs.com/asset/orchestral-themes-vol-1

There are dozens of other packs as well that tend to be more specific themed.

Rob

Looks promising!

Thanks Rob!!

I will buy something from Corona Market for sure!

I’m confused.  The title of the post is ‘sounds’, but the body says

quality background music?

I typically use the terms:

  • music/soundtrack - This is background music  used to theme or set the mood in your game.
  • (sound) effects - These are sounds like “boop”, explosions, clicks, etc.
  • voice effects  - Human and human-like exclamations (like your example).
  • voice-overs - These are vocals usually used to narrate and tell stories.

You are right!

I meant sounds and music in general…

Anyone knows how to get license to use popular songs in my game?

Like Piano Tiles does.

I’m sure it varies, but the basic steps would be:

  1. Determine the music your are interested in using.

  2. Determine who holds the license.  (Some works are in the public domain.)

  3. Contact the license holder.

Honestly, I don’t think it is worth the effort unless you have a studio backing you with a legal department to handle this.  You’re more than likely going to be ignored or redirected to some ‘answering service’.

I’m not saying don’t try, but don’t be disappointed if this is harder than you thought.  Just imagine how many contacts some music companies get.

Also, are you sure that the music Piano Tiles uses is licensed/owned?  It may be in the public domain.

For example in this video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O1JLYGhqhao

Piano Tiles is playing ‘Turkish March’, but a synthesized version of it.  My guess here is that they are free and clear to do so.  This is effectively the same as you playing it on a piano for an audience.

If this were a recording of someone else playing, then they’d need to license that instance of the song.

Now, if on the other hand you wanted to play a song by say… ‘Lady Gaga’, or ‘The Beatles’, or ‘Elvis’, because these are all current or recent artists, the ownership and licensing of their work would be more challenging to work out.

At the end of the day, the only safe way to approach working with (possibly) licensed works is to:

A. Use a lawyer.

  • OR -

B. Don’t use them.

Any songs that haven’t entered the public domain (which will probably be most of the songs you are thinking of) will be prohibitively expensive to license.  For instance, my sister is a director and runs into this problem all the time.  For her, licensing popular music usually starts at $10k.  The really popular stuff goes for a lot more.

I bet you can find what you want on the Corona marketplace.  I’ve purchase a whole mess of music there and it’s a bargain as much of it is really high quality.

Okey.
Thanks for clarification!

I will try available works on audiojungle, Corona store and things like that…

My friend told me they have popular songs now (opposite to when they started - they only had old clasic’s).
