1.9 navigation pane

  1. It appears the navigation pane is no longer showing a lock icon for local functions and the regular icon for global ones.

This is certainly not a huge deal but it was an easy way for me to know the state of my functions at a glance.

  1. It appears the filter buttons at the bottom of the navigation pane are no longer doing anything.

Just updated today to the latest 1.9…

thanks,

Rick

Hello Rick,

We needed to rethink about the level of detail shown in the navigator pane. The idea is to get rid of as much redundant information as possible and stress important information so that it is visible in multiple places. Here is the plan and our reasoning behind it

  1. Show globals in the navigator pane and in the projects view node. When a file has globals there will be an expansion handle in the projects view for that file. Unwanted globals are dangerous so you will be able to see them in 3 places: in the editor as green, in the navigator pane, and in the projects view.
  2. Show only function level locals, not locals inside sub scopes. Showing all the locals is probably too much information.
  3. Perhaps have a “requires” node that shows all the modules this file depends on.

If you have any more feature requests for the navigator pane please let us know. We would like to know how users are using the navigator and what is the best way to organize it.

M.Y. Developers

The navigator pane has reverted to 1.7 type behaviour in that it appears to expand various functions at random to show embedded local functions. Very annoying. For instance - click the “fields” filter and the local functions all appear. Also can we please have persistence in the filter settings for the navigator pane - they have to be reset every time Glider is opened. Whatever you decide to do with the navigator pane please provide full preference settings so that we can choose which features to use. Currently I would like the option just to see a simple list of functions so that I navigate to them with one click.

Using Glider on a Mac, cannot use the “go to forum/bugs/suggestions” - would much prefer these functions to use my browser rather than something in an editor tab.

Apart from that, still very pleased with 1.9

All the best

Hello Sean,

Thanks for your feedback. We will have an option to do flat vs nested navigator panes as well as an option to hide everything except functions.

Hello Sean and Rick,

There is an update (1.9.1) that has the features requested. Please get it via help-> check for updates. You may need to activate the ones you want via options-> glider options-> editor -> Navigator

Thanks, your update is working much better for me!

I am glad I bought Glider…you guys have been right on top of issues…and made my development that much easier. Bravo!

Hi

Just updated. Cannot see version No. 1.9.1 in “about” window.  Product Version: LuaGliderv19 201302132200 - is this the right one? Also cannot make sense of the path you gave: “options/glider options/editor/Navigator” - tried Preferences/Editor but no sign of “Navigator” tab.

Have I got right version? How can I tell?

Sean

Apologies. Senility overload - found Navigation Panel.

Hello Sean,

Sorry about that, should have given you this screenshot too:

You can tell the right version via window->whats new. The changelog will be present at the top.

My fault, apologies again. Saw first “editor” tab, completely missed the one under “Glider Options”.

Thanks for the responsive update.

I’m using corona and included in function list are all “onComplete()” functions, (a function call used as part of Corona’s transition api), even though I have unchecked “nested functions” in preferences.

Also (absolutely minor) - lock icon appears against local and global functions (but not the “onComplete()'s”))- not sure I understand the function of the lock icon?

Lastly, great inclusion of globals in navigator pane.

All the best

Sean

Hello Sean,

Sorry the nested functions option seems to be a bit misleading. It is purely for display purposes.

Please see the screenshot:

We can add an option that says something like “show functions ___ levels deep”

Hi there,

Take a look at enclosed screenshot. I don’t understand why the onComplete() functions are showing. I would have expected them to show as nested, but I’ve disabled that option.

Hello Sean,

In short it is currently not possible to filter out functions completely from the navigator pane. This feature was intended to fix the problem:

The navigator pane has reverted to 1.7 type behaviour in that it appears to expand various functions at random to show embedded local functions. Very annoying.
