2560 claims OS X Retina support. I don't see that it does.

iMac 27" Retina

Max OS X 10.10.2

Corona SDK 2015.2560

Build 2560 claims OS X Retina support (case 24722), but I don’t see that it does.

I have an iMac 27" Retina and when using the Corona Simulator, the simulator display is still in “low-res mode”.

I normally use the borderless simulator, but even the skinned versions are low-res.

What did Case 24722 entail?

That case number was simple “Add support for Retina Macs”.   Not to ask the dumb question but do you have the box checked for low res?

Rob

Not a dumb question at all.

The problem is… where is it?

I’ve looked in Preferences and the menus but can’t find any such setting…

Right click (or control-click) on the Corona Simulator icon in the /Applications/CoronaSDK  folder and choose “Get Info”.  The Run in Low Resolution option should be there.  I don’t see it there, but then I’m not on a Retina macbook.

Rob

That was very well hidden  :P !

However…after doing that I see the “Open in low resolution” checkbox… but it’s already unchecked, and the Corona Simulator is not in Retina mode.

Maybe the new Retina iMac is doing things differently?

Dunno, I’ll pass this back to engineering.

Rob

Hi Ingemar,

Just FYI, the Retina mode works for me on a Retina Macbook Pro, but this is not the absolute newest model (it’s a couple years old now). Do you have a laptop (Retina) or a slightly smaller Retina display <27" that you could test on?

Thanks,

Brent

Nope, sorry.

I haven’t got access to any more Retina Macs.  :frowning:

@Brent

I’ve found a slight difference between low-res and Retina mode, and I guess you can say that it’s working. Sort of.

I cropped part of the Welcome Screen in Low-Res and Retina mode, and as you can see the resolution is the same, but the font smoothing is better in Retina mode. I expected to have clear typography and graphics as in other Retina enable apps.

Low-Res:

Retina mode:

To me it looks like the output is magnified @2x which, after thinking about it, is reasonable given the small screen sizes of mobile devices. If the Simulator screen would be in native pixel resolution on the iMac, it would be a very tiny window which most likely wouldn’t be of any use.

The OS X portions of the Simulator (menus, open file dialog, etc) are rendered at a higher resolution because the app is now “retina-capable”.  The OpenGL simulation of the device has not changed very much because that would throw many things off (like content-scaling).

We’re looking at ways of taking advantage of retina in the simulation window but haven’t come to any conclusions yet.

…makes perfect sense. Thanks for the explanation.
