64-bit and iOS 8 Requirements for New Apps

Apple’s announcement today says: “Starting February 1, 2015, new iOS apps uploaded to the App Store must include 64-bit support and be built with the iOS 8 SDK, included in Xcode 6 or later. To enable 64-bit in your project, we recommend using the default Xcode build setting of “Standard architectures” to build a single binary with both 32-bit and 64-bit code.” https://developer.apple.com/news/?id=10202014a

This is more of a FYI to folks who might need to pay attention…

I was about to post this myself

This is something that CoronaLabs need to take action on sooner rather than later, as the Corona SDK doesn’t include support for 64-bit slices in their iOS builds.

Engineering is aware of this requirement.

Great!

Apple knows how to keep you on your toes  ;)  (oooh. that rhymes!)

Hi,

any update on this topic ?

if i want to build new apps what should i do?

which corona sdks version  should  I use?

i am  a basic/starter corona user.

Hi,

same problem for me.

Thanks!

No Corona version can build 64 bit apps today.  It’s something Engineering is going to have to work on and have to be done before Apple makes this a requirement.  It’s just a warning now.  Just use the latest version you have access to.

Any news on this?  Apple says Feb 1st must build for 64-bit.  Does any of the daily builds have this ability?

In fairness to Corona, Walter posted about this at some length last month in this blog post:

http://coronalabs.com/blog/2014/12/03/coronas-ios-64-bit-transition-plan/

Excerpt: “Starting in early Jan 2015, we will be making a 32/64-bit universal version of Corona SDK available to all subscription tiers. Depending on the progress of our plugin partners, we may make daily builds available to Pro (and higher) subscribers earlier than that. When this build becomes available, you will just need to rebuild your app with this version of Corona SDK.”

Corona also has posted a more detailed transition plan here:

http://docs.coronalabs.com/daily/native/plugin/ios-64-bit-transition-guide.html

If it were January 30, I’d share your concern. But it’s still early January and Corona has demonstrated that they’re aware of the deadline, so it seems reasonable to take them at their word and wait a bit longer.

No dates yet on when an SDK will be available to start using.  There are several things we have to get done first.  We are very much aware of the dates involved.

Corona273 …

I missed those post you mentioned, so I will go and check them out.

Not concerned! Can’t be concerned about something I can not control… but I thought in all fairness to me, that 3 weeks before deadline is a fair time to check and see where we are on this.  In no way was this suppose to be a complaint or even a concern!  I figured there was possibly some update of information on this that i missed, thus before I trying to submit two apps I have nearing release, I thought I would see if I missed a update that might have included the 64-bit build.

I was just checking… not complaining… I never post concerns or complaints.

But thanks for those links I will check them out.
