A good strategy for monetizing an educational app?

Among the teaching material and desktop applications I’ve developed, some have been successful but schools have moved toward mobile devices and I’ve selected one to develop to add to the many (non-educational) apps.

Previously I’ve charged 20 EUR for the desktop version and sold directly to national schools, but sales have dropped with the move to smaller devices in schools. Now I want to open up the mobile app for everyone and hoping to make 1 EUR per download ( net ) instead.

Which of these alternatives are best, in your experience? (The app is localized to a single language, with an English version prepared, this affects ad revenue at the start.)

a ) Free version with ads+pro version for 1 EUR.

b ) A single free version with ads.

c ) Free version with 2 of 10 courses+the full app for 1 EUR

d ) Free version+1 in-app purchase (no ads)

e ) One paid 2 EUR app with me spending money marketing the app, with 50% discount for educational institutions.

Or any alternative you can think of.

I would be thankful for your thoughts

Unless you have serious download numbers revenue from ads will be minimal so I’d prob go with free with €1 unlock for premium content.  Your option c).

If users see the value in 2 courses they should pay for the rest.
