Hi Dingo,

Perhaps this is not the posting area to get into details but i’d like to share a bit more with you and other corona developers as unsuccessful stories are just as important as successful ones

I’ve released 2 games (3 versions) prior to this new game Temples of the Sun, all developed using corona sdk. All graphics and coding were done by myself (fulltime)

All I can say at the moment is that I wouldn’t advise anyone to give up their day job to work fulltime making game apps (unless you’re independently wealthy  )

I’ve been in the creative industry (online and offline) for +20yrs, (note: i’m not trained in coding). Even though I’ve been publishing physical board and card games since 1998, it’s interactive games that are my real passion hence I decided to ‘retire’ from my ‘day job’ work to focus solely on developing game apps.

I can say that Planetary Command has around 20k downloads for the free version, less then 100 for the paid version, both were release around end aug. (so don’t feel bad if your results aren’t great, unless mine are the worst, then feel bad for me!)

My 2nd game Candy Command, a free game has only got around +1k downloads and neglible in=app purchases, released end oct.

So as i mentioned earlier, 3rd time lucky perhaps. Completely new game direction, category, and engagement.

From what I see so far, in this short time developing, is:

1: Pick your game categories wisely (if your game isn’t doing well in the charts in a category, then maybe try switch category on your next update)
2: Build up as much hype (word of mouth) about your new game/app before it goes onto the app store
3: Put banner ads in free apps, (with possibly an in-app purchase to upgrade to full game or remove ads).
4: (For indies) Don’t be disheartened if you don’t get a gazillion downloads or truck loads of money, if your heart/passion isn’t in developing games, share the load with a small team or go work for someone.

There are a bunch more to my list, perhaps if an area in the forums is created to give marketing tips (sorry if there is and i didn’t see it) I can post the whole list, after all we are in some way a community connected by corona.

Good Luck to all with your games  [import]uid: 66228 topic_id: 17536 reply_id: 66654[/import]

thanks for the post and the insights!

since i gave up my regular work and running an own company now, figures do matter. we just want to make great games and live from it. wish us luck :).

thanks again for the infos and good luck with your new game! [import]uid: 90610 topic_id: 17536 reply_id: 66655[/import]

Thanks Peach, I’ll be sure to submit some promo codes to the Ansca team when the game comes onto the app store. [import]uid: 66228 topic_id: 17536 reply_id: 66658[/import]
