Admob and performance

Hi there, I made a post about this a long time ago but it has been arquived.

I’m still having problems with admob’s banner, specifically text banners.

In some devices it is clear, when the text banner starts movement:

Transitions get sluggish, cpu temperature rises, frame rate drops.

As soon as they change to an image banner everything goes back to normal.

This time I made a cpu usage test with different versions of my game (image)

it doesn’t seem to be with network volume.

Interstitials require more network and still are harmless

The problem is in the display

Such cpu hunger just to move some text up and down. It looks like something fixable to me.

Admob team: any chance of a review for this?

You should open up a ticket with Admob. I don’t believe Corona does anything but just display the banner, and I have seen this type of performance hit outside of Corona-built apps. In the Admob control panel, you can also de-selected “animated” banner or “video” banners (I forget what they are called".

This is likely out of our control. I agree about reaching out to AdMob. But I’ll ping our engineers anyway.

Hi guys.

Sadly, agramonte and Rob are right - Corona have no control over Admob’s banners performance.

Actually, this issue is quite common. A lot of people are complaining about it. Google has improved performance in some of their later updates, but the issue is still exist.

Thanks for the answers, I’ll talk to admob.

I have received bad reviews about this. Apparently we have to live with it

About the admob control panel, right now you can only de-select video or everything else. In the past you could unmarkt text against image ads
