AdMob mediation

There are already some old threads touching this topic, but I’m still curious.

Through the Professional Bundle we get the AdMob, Unity Ads, Chartboost and AdColony plugins, which is great. But still, we can’t use AdMob mediation to serve ads from Unity Ads, Chartboost and AdColony? All these networks support mediation through AdMob.

If this was possible we would still need to include all the ad plugins but only use the one for AdMob when trying to load and display ads.

Why can’t the AdMob mediation adaptors be bundled with the plugins for the other networks? We’d still only be able to use the mediation feature if we purchased all the plugins, so I don’t see how anyone would lose on it.

Have you looked into Appodeal?

Rob

I agree w/ @Rob Miracle - Appodeal is sweet, easy-to-use, integrates with Admob, and it is free.

Yeah, we’re fully aware of appodeal. But we bought the bundle under the assumption that mediation would be possible through admob. Why else would we have bought the bundle in the first place, when the ad networks are already available for “free” with the appodeal plugin?

There is some history here that you need to understand.  When AdMob introduced mediation a year or so ago, they only supported a couple of really low performing mediation demand partners. It really wasn’t of value to implement it. I don’t know if today’s AdMob supports other demand partners or not that are better performing or not.

Most people buying the bundle are implementing their own mediation (did I get an AdMob ad? No, try Chartboost. Did I get a Chartboost ad? No try the next provider).  There never was an intent that these other plugins would be part of AdMob mediation. For that to work, the various SDK’s for the providers have to be compiled into the AdMob plugin which would greatly increase it’s size. The original Appodeal plugin was huge until we made a modular version, but if you include all the demand partners and the various banner, interstitial and reward video sub-plugins, it can still end up being a really big impact on your app size.

Finally Appodeal is great and you do get access to these other demand partners, but it’s not for everyone because for mediation to work properly you need like 10,000 impressions a day for mediation to really kick in.
