Advertising identifier without Ads

Hi,

I am am submitting my app with Google Analytics and had two questions.

  1. Do I need to register that encryption ID with the government while using Google Analytics?

  2. As I go to submit it says that I need to select an advertising identifier use, even though I do not use any form of ads in my app. I think this could be because of Google Analytics, and was wondering what form of use I should select (as I cannot select no for some reason)

Thanks

  1. No. The only registration you need to perform is via their system.

  2. Perhaps you selected something which indicated you have ads earlier in the process. Maybe go back and start again, recheck your options or simply select the first one.

Disclaimer: This sounds like an easy question to answer generically, though I have not submitted an app via the Android store so I don’t know, I’m afraid.

Hi,

Thank you for the information. I am actually just submitting this through Apple’s store, and am not able to press ‘no’ to the advertising identifier act as it just states that I have ads.

Here are the three options I am presented with, and I must click at least one.

  1. Serve advertisements within the app

  2. Attribute this app installation to a previously served advertisement

  3. Attribute an action taken within this app to a previously served advertisement

The analytics work perfectly, despite this odd error.

Thanks

Hi all,

Just thought I would push this up to the top as I am still experiencing this issue, and was wondering if the development team could check this out.

Thanks

I’ve not submitted an app through Apple lately, so I don’t know what they are asking for these days. Generally in the past, you would have apps that show ads, or one that uses the IFDA for things like analytics and there is an option to select that.

Can you make some screen shots of the submit process and let us see what they are asking for?

Rob

Hi Rob,

Here’s what I see when clicking submit app:

Upon clicking “no”

Upon clicking yes:

The only thing I can see is that in previous versions I have had ads in the app, and this is the first version where I completely removed ads (build.settings, main.lua). If its nothing on your end, maybe it’s just Apple thinking ads are still present as they were in previous versions.

Thank you

My advice would be to google around for flurry and advertising identifier. And see what other native developers are running into. Look to see if Apple has made any statements around cracking down on analytics developers.
