After I updated Xcode, I can't find where the console log is?

About a few days ago I updated Xcode, now I cannot find where the console output is.

I used to bring up “Organizer” in Xcode, and there are devices in the left and under each connected device, there is “Console” for the console log output.

Now, the Organizer has NO device option. What the heck?

And I bring up another “Devices” window for uploading apps, but I don’t see the console log (& the interface really sucks)

Anyone can share some secrets after this Xcode update?

Look for this image at the bottom of the screen when looking at the devices window and your device selected.  It’s on the left hand side:

xode6console.png

click it and then that will expand the bottom to show you the console log.  The trash can clear it.  The circle with the down arrow lets you save it.

Rob

Thanks Rob. It’s exactly there.

How did you know about this? I tried to google but I couldn’t find it.

Now the console log window is so small, any way to resize its height?

Don’t understand why Apple modified it this way.

Besides, I used to “drag” updated build file into the window for uploading a new version, now I have to explicitly click on “+” and select the file. Is there any way I can “drag” again?

I can’t explain why Apple does some of the things it does.  I found it by clicking on things kinda randomly.  That Icon does kind mean “Expand” this area or Collapse if it’s the other direction.  There should be 3 dots in the middle and your cursor should turn to a double arrow when you hover over the dividing line giving you the opportunity to slide the window containing the console log up a bit.

Rob

I can’t find the 3 dots in the middle (are you also using Mac?)

I was also trying to find the console log window, but I couldn’t. It’s probably the most hardest thing ever to find that icon

So you also have to click on “+” & select the file to be uploaded?

I don’t understand why Apple does this. The previous UI was quite intuitive and now it’s really weird.

Yes you also have to hit the + to add an app.  As far as the 3 dots, I don’t have a sync cord handy to plug a device in, but you should be able to hover your mouse over the dividing line between the log and the area above it, perhaps near the center of the screen until it turns into a double arrow.  Click and drag the line up.

Re-sizing the console log window is a bit misleading. The trigger to resize the area (and get the double-arrow) is an invisible line just above the icon on the left at the top of the log window. After you see the double-arrow you can adjust the size up/down.

You can still drag apps to the device in the Devices window. There’s a list called “Installed Apps” where you can see currently installed apps on the device (it may be empty). Just drag your app to the list and it will be installed.

Wow! It’s really “invisible”! I finally found it. It’s the most invisible line I’ve ever seen. It’s totally invisible. I don’t know how I could find it without your answer.

And you are right, I can still drag the file for uploading.

Thanks a lot for clearing up these two things.

Today’s trivia: Why would Apple change its Xcode device interface to the new one? (especially the invisible line)

A. they hired a new UI interface designer and he sucks

B. because Jobs is gone and no one is watching & being picky

C. it’s a joke Apple wants to have fun with the developers

D. it’s a new industry design trend

Even though I suspect that your Trivia quiz was most likely a rhetorical one, I’d opt for option D (to keep the interface clean).

However I think that a “three gray dot” icon in the center of the invisible line will make its way into the design in the near future…

lol thanks for that, I was copy pasting contents and moving to text editor to see it in a bigger window. Quite epic UI.

I just examined again “very thoroughly”… I still cannot see the “three gray dot”

I still cannot see the “three gray dot”

They’re invisible!

I think you misunderstood me. What I meant is that I believe Apple will eventually add “three grey dots” (or something similar) to their UI in the future.
