aloha

Aloha from Hawaii,

Watz up all. My name is Jeff and I live here in paradise. I started programming with Corona Sdk for 4 months now. I looked at Game Salad for about three seconds lolz… I dont like to drag and drop things to create games… I have to code! Thats why I love Corona so much. I tried my nack at game programming along time ago for Windows PC and I hade some experience using lua when I coded games in OpenGL. Anyway, I really connected immediately with Corona SDK.

I have a Computer Science degree from Hawaii Pacific University that I’m currently NOT using… so when one of my friends told me about the “Flappy Birds” craze and that this guy was making 50,000$ dollars a day… It got me interested in programming games again to pay off student loan debt-- though I have no illusions about about how much money ill be making… when I created a windows game 10 years ago for a company called “Monkey byte” I sold only one copy! Ugh

but back then I spent so much time learning how to program for windows and keeping up with the technology that I couldn’t
focus on game content… that what I love about Corona SDK. You still feel like a programmer… and I dont have to worry about the unfoldimg technology … I can focus on the Game.

Anway, Aloha

Welcome!

I agree that with Corona SDK you get one of the fastest development times from idea, to concept, to finished product… and one code base for iOS and Android which is great!

Flappy bird is a good project to start with as the game mechanics is straight forward and introduces you to many of the core API’s.

Don’t buy a template though. Develop it from scratch yourself. That’s the best way to learn. However don’t expect to make too much money if you publish it. There are hundreds (if not even thousands) of clones out there already.

However, armed with a unique idea, good graphics and Corona SDK, you’ll be able to create a blockbuster game in no-time  :) !

Happy coding!

KOOL DOOD! I am a 16 year old programmer and I was programming in Lua using Corona SDK. When I started to loose hope… BOOM Flappy Bird took off and I was like geez $100 can’t be too hard so I have made 3 apps now all published to android but apple keeps rejecting them. Anyway stay fresh home slices, lets make some dollaaaahs.

Lol. Thanks Max. Good luck to you!

Anyway, why does Apple keep reading rejecting your apps?

oh I had a Runtime error. Just a gravity issue in my Create a scene I have resubmitted they will accept them now. It was just my mistake.
