Alpha Testing for Paid Apps in Google Play

Hey,

I am in the final stages of uploading my paid app to the google play store.

I have setup myself as an alpha tester with the intention of doing final validation before promoting the APK for public distribution.

When i try accessing the test link to the application i found out that as an alpha tester I am expected to pay for the application. When i try paying for the application, the google play rejected my credit card and prevent me from proceeding. Just as a sanity check i made sure i can purchase other apps and it works (so this is not an error in submitting my credit card info)

What am I doing wrong? Has anyone encountered this issue? From what I read in the internet alpha testers have to pay for testing the app, is that true?

Thanks

Google does not permit a developer to buy his/her own apps (or buy your own in-app purchases either).  You have to have a 2nd account that isn’t your registered developer account to do that.   They should not make your testers buy the paid app.

You actually have to pay for the in app purchase.

The amount is deducted from your card.

The rationale behind it is that you will actually own the addon bought once the game is published.
