Alternative Forum Search

Greetings all.

I must have been out the day they announced that they were removing the search box for the forums. Without a handy search, getting useful information out of the forums is a time-sucking task.

I tried using the Google shortcut: site:developer.coronalabs.com/forum – but that was just too cumbersome.

So, I scratched my own itch and put together a Google Custom Search site just for CoronaSDK info. It covers the API documentation, the official CoronaSDK blog, *and* the Forums. It also adds in the CoronaSDK section of StackOverflow which often has useful answers in it.

If there are other sites that should be included, let me know.

You can find this handy search tool at: http://csdkinfo.com

Hi @bensharpe,
This looks very useful, especially as it searches StackOverflow as well (where various Corona questions/answers are often posted).

I would just suggest that you remove “learningcorona.com” from the search. The site is no longer maintained and it contains many broken or outdated links. A much better site to include would be the TandG Apps resources page, which is like “learningcorona” except it’s actually maintained and updated on a daily and weekly basis.

Thanks Brent. Great suggestion! I’ve already changed it.

Thanks for sharing it @bensharpe.

In fact I just sent a message to Corona (via Contact Form) saying that they need to improve their search asap. It is really horrible to find information in the forum.

@bensharpe,

does you search only looks in the post title? Example, if I search “intent-filter” I do not get this post in the result.

Of course, I am not complaining. Thanks for building the tool. [import]uid: 181011 topic_id: 35207 reply_id: 140158[/import]

@rsc

Actually Google is doing all the heavy lifting here – this is a custom google search page. However, I did find that post by searching for “intent filter” and then clicking the “Forum” tab under the search. It was about the 5th or 6th answer down.

Clicking the tabs under the search limits the results to certain specific areas. This makes it easier to find the exact answer you’re looking for. [import]uid: 9048 topic_id: 35207 reply_id: 140218[/import]

Wow, you are right, I did find that post (and many others) if I select the Forum tab. So it appears that the All tab is not really All, hehe.

Thanks for letting me know it.

Hi bensharpe, thanks for your tool!

As simple as it is, it saves a ton of time!!

Quick suggestion: you should include a new sheet for searches in “http://developer.coronalabs.com/code/

As far as I can tell, it currently isnt searching there, and the code are has great stuff too!!

Best,

Marcio
