Alternative to .aac for android

Hello,
Is there a good alternative to using .aac for android? I am using .aac for the iPhone version.
But that doesn’t work on Android. It doesn’t want to play all my files. It somehow plays my background music but not the regular audio. All .aac.
So I need a different codec. wav is not an option. The filesize would go from 18 MB total, to over 50 Mb just the audio.
Any tips?

I used mp3, not as nice and small as aac but I guess it is better then no audio.
