Android 1280x800 Skin... Please

I know the motorola Xoom isnt popular, but the screen resolution is getting used by more and more Android devices.

We need a Skin for android that does 1280 x 800 resolution. I dont care which device you mimic for it.

I have a 1st Generation Xoom. i know the new version of its out also. I also know that Samsung Galaxy Tabs now also use this resolution. And i believe the new Motorola xyboard uses it as well.

Please hook us up with a Skin for this resolution so its easier to troubleshoot display issues for these devices. [import]uid: 88147 topic_id: 19424 reply_id: 319424[/import]

I will bring this up in our next meeting.

This would be awesome if you could get them to hook us up with this to bring in the new year!!!

I have access to a xoom and an asus - via my kids devices.
I send them apks for final test - my last app took several iterations before I got a clean 1280x800 build.

Thanks! [import]uid: 9070 topic_id: 19424 reply_id: 75532[/import]

what do you mean by Skin? Sorry I’m new, trying to learn as much as I can  [import]uid: 41389 topic_id: 19424 reply_id: 75535[/import]

Hey Leom,

When you launch Corona you can choose which device you simulate - iPhone, iPad, etc.

These guys would like a new “skin” for the simulator that is 1280 x 800.

Does that help to clarify?

When is this next meeting  any meeting notes to hand out yet? [import]uid: 88147 topic_id: 19424 reply_id: 76231[/import]

This is all pretty much irrelevant and archaic.

As a developr I don’t give a monkey´s uncle about the skin - just give me access to a config file for the simluator where I can specify the width, height and orientation of the display, and let me do the work.

If you really want to be nice, you could also specify an image to go with it.

All the current skins are just this (maybe not, I haven’t tried the kindle stuff, but 99% of devices in the world would certainly fall into a simple width + height setup), I don’t see why we need you guys to handle them - let us sort out the config and graphics, and I’m sure in a few milliseconds the guys in the forum will have a long list of downloadable skins to cover every device in the world. Soon, some people are still on holidays

Rakoonic, I’ll pass along your thoughts as well.

just checking in on this. Did this request make the cut? [import]uid: 88147 topic_id: 19424 reply_id: 78807[/import]

It has been discussed although I’m not sure if it’s something currently being worked on or not - I’ll ask around tomorrow and see if I can get any news for you.

1280x800 and 1280x720

or something with a ratio of 1.6

I like the idea of being able to specify the size though… [import]uid: 8697 topic_id: 19424 reply_id: 81914[/import]

Still not done? This skin nonsense has been discussed in other threads looong ago. I wholeheartedly support rakoonic.

Even if you implement the feature in a new version of the SDK, I still use the old one - the latest stable release. And newer releases break a lot of things with sprites, so I’ll have to rewrite A LOT of code just to see how my game looks in a different resolution.

So is it possible that you also make a maintenance release of SDK v2011.704 for those of us with perfectly working code who just want to cover extra devices without giving the code base a thorough overhaul? [import]uid: 52103 topic_id: 19424 reply_id: 92158[/import]

I guess, our only option for now it to use Android Emulator. But that must be extremely slow at 1280x800 since they emulate GPU on CPU also :\ [import]uid: 52103 topic_id: 19424 reply_id: 92159[/import]

Whats really disappointing is that I bet you good money Ansca will release a iPad3 2048x1536 “Skin” within a month…

and the 1280x800 skin will be completely ignored.

I truely don’t understand the difficulty of bringing a 1280x800 skin to their simulator. I know they are working on some important BIG ticket items. but sometimes a simple small ticket item will be seen as a huge improvement. [import]uid: 88147 topic_id: 19424 reply_id: 92160[/import]

Unfortunately, Android Emulator is not an option. Yes, it’s super slow, but it also looks like this:

i’ll see what we can do in squeezing this in. no promises.

:frowning: still no love for the 1280x800 skin… i believe its the only resolution gap Corona is missing… [import]uid: 88147 topic_id: 19424 reply_id: 99780[/import]

Macbooks also use 1280x 800, so a skin for it would be great for develop mac apps on corona sdk (a little off topic)

Oh, and vitalyx, use Bluestacks. It worked for me and corona apps runs well. [import]uid: 44110 topic_id: 19424 reply_id: 99948[/import]

I agree.

I was disappointed to see that this was not already in there. It would be great if the simulator gave the option to set up various size screens on the fly. That way we could manually set up different sizes as they come out. Toshiba has a new 1600x900 Android tablet coming out. Getting even more fun. [import]uid: 17827 topic_id: 19424 reply_id: 99997[/import]
