Android 4.1 (Jellybean) not supported?

We’ve got two reviews on different apps from different users saying our apps don’t work on the new android release… We don’t have it installed locally so we cannot investigate much.

Is this a known issue? maybe something I can fix with a menifest.xml change [import]uid: 80469 topic_id: 28724 reply_id: 328724[/import]

May be it works you may try it… [import]uid: 132753 topic_id: 28724 reply_id: 115793[/import]

justinbob7007, not sure what you mean by that

anyone has a 4.1 (jelly beans) device and saw a corona app running well?

Thanks

Corona works on Android 4.1, but there are some new compatibility issues. At least with the Nexus 7 tablet that I’ve tried it on.

Native text fields have graphics glitches when you press the power button and then go back to the app. All of the text turns into squares and the fields turn black. Looks like an Android rendering bug that we have to work-around.

The media.show() video player is always played in portrait mode and never in landscape. At least on my Nexus 7 tablet. Haven’t had time to look further into that, but it’s a minor issue.

The above 2 issues are the only issues that I’m aware of so far. The native text field/box one is the only critical bug so far. If your app does not use it, then you’ve probably got nothing to worry about. [import]uid: 32256 topic_id: 28724 reply_id: 115832[/import]

Thanks Joshua,

This is one of the advantages of using Corona, it’s being tested on devices I don’t have.

Anyway great news that you found only two small problems till now.

I’m less worried about the reviews now, I also see they are from a Galaxy Nexus and AFAIK 4.1 was not yet release to devices other than the Nexus 7 tablet so I guess these guys are rooting and installing unsupported stuff anyway…

BTW, would be more than glad to hear your experience with the Nexus 7 as our main market is Android… [import]uid: 80469 topic_id: 28724 reply_id: 115836[/import]

Happy to help Gury.

We haven’t done a full test cycle on the Nexus 7 and Android 4.1 yet, but we’ll get to it. This is just what we’ve noticed so far. Also, daily build #849 fixes an issue on Android 4.0.3 and higher (including 4.1 and Nexus 7) where a Corona app can crash when exiting the app. So, you’ll want to use that daily build.

Regarding my personal opinion of the Nexus 7, it’s a really nice device. You can tell that Google is definitely trying to compete with the Kindle Fire with it because it has the same form factor and they now provide books… and it one ups the Kindle Fire by including a camera. The Nexus 7’s performance is really good too. And the home screen has a metro like interface to it too, reminiscent of Windows Mobile. Anyways, that’s my personal opinion. Everyone,

That native field issue that I mentioned up above was turning out to happen on a Samsung Galaxy SIII and HTC One V… and possibly other devices as well. We’ve found a fix for this issue and the fix will be made available in this weekend’s daily build, #878.

Also, the Nexus 7 video player issue that I mentioned turned out to be not a bug. It was user error (mine). The video can actually play in other orientations. It turned out my Nexus 7 had orientation support disabled in its set up menu at the time I tested it. So, no worries there. [import]uid: 32256 topic_id: 28724 reply_id: 119325[/import]

Thanks, just wanted to say the problems we had were caused by a bug in our code, nothing to do with corona sdk…

Our games work fine on jelly bean.

Ps, i’m gury’s partner… [import]uid: 80477 topic_id: 28724 reply_id: 119339[/import]

Ariel,

Sounds great! I’m glad you guys got it working on Jellybean. Yeah, you don’t need to use the newest daily build unless you are using native fields. [import]uid: 32256 topic_id: 28724 reply_id: 119535[/import]
