Android App Title Localization Script

Hello forum!

As a little public service, I decided to take some (too much) time while waiting for app store approval to make my personal Android title localization script user-friendly and put it all together in a self contained zip file for anyone that wants to use it. Thanks to @ingemar for the original instructions posted back in 2013!

Although I have tested and used this on my own apps, you use this at your own risk. There is absolutely no error-handling other than the script checking for Admin privileges upon launch, so it is your responsibility to make sure everything is entered correctly. That being said, I have tested it with: French, German, Spanish, Japanese, and Russian with no issues. You may need to change your cmd.exe font to one that supports UTF-8 characters if you want to display them correctly in the console. However, this does not affect the functionality of the script.

Tested successfully on:

-Windows 10 64 bit

-JDK 9.0.4

-Corona Simulator 2018.3239

With Plugins:

-Splash Screen Control (NOTE: Your splash screen image must be a png, NOT jpg)

-Appodeal

-Google IAP v3

-Google Play Game Services

The script is pretty straightforward, but there are instructions in the comment section of the script, as well as in the console output when running the script. But you may also refer to these instructions here:

(Hint: extract a copy of this zip file to every project you want to localize, then you only have to perform this legwork once per app. After that, it takes all of a few clicks to localize your apk every time you have a new build to submit.)

-Extract the entire contents of the zip file to a directory of your choice

-Ensure that jarsigner.lnk points to the appropriate location in your jdk installation. (By default it points to “C:\Program Files\Java\jdk-9.0.4\bin\jarsigner.exe”

-Copy your keystore to the extracted zip file directory

-Copy your apk to the extracted zip file directory

-Edit the variables in the commented section at the top of the localization script labeled ‘USER VARIABLES’. These variables include, your keystore filename, the keystore alias, the key password, your default title, as well as iso code/localized title pairs. Make sure that for every iso code variable, you have a corresponding localized title variable. When saving your changes ENSURE THAT YOU SAVE THE FILE AS “UTF-8 Without Signature”.

-Run the script as administrator, where it will prompt for the name of the apk (not including the .apk extension) and the android version code.

-The script pauses after every critical stage: unpacking, modifying, repacking, clean-up/finalization.

-Before finalizing, I recommend that you read the lines in the console output beginning with 'SCRIPT: ’ to ensure the script did what you intended. Every action taken by the script is detailed in those labelled lines.

-After pressing enter to clean-up/finalize, your non-localized apk will be named (YourApkName).old and the localized apk will be named (YourApkName).apk

-Go test it on your devices, and submit to the Play Store when satisfied
