Android Build Error - MD5 Hash

Back again with another android failed build error (256). Same error I can replicate with a previously successfully build production android app.

FAILURE: Build failed with an exception.

  • What went wrong:
    Execution failed for task ‘:App:packageCoronaAppRelease’.

Cannot fingerprint input file property ‘rootSpec$1$1’: Failed to create MD5 hash for file content.

I have tried various paths for the output, desktop, root of my user account on my mac etc.

My research on another forum It suggests a corrupted file somewhere on my machine, and I best reformat my entire machine and try again. Before I do all of that any suggestions?
