Android (Building for the Market)

Hello,

Can anyone point me in a direction for building on the android and having it on the android market ? I am very confused about it, IOS is very straight forward, but android is giving me a hard time. How would I start and what do I need to do during the process?

Thanks a lot! [import]uid: 23689 topic_id: 19880 reply_id: 319880[/import]

(I am moving this to Android.)

What parts specifically do you need help with?

Do you know how to create a keystore?

If not, are you on a Mac or a PC? I notice you are an Indie subscriber so you aren’t currently able to build for both iOS and Android.

Please provide more info.

I am currently using a Mac. I don’t know how to make a keystore. I know I can’t build for android yet, I am first wandering if i can manage it and how i can do it.

I really don’t know where to start, what to do. I just want to know what i need to do to build on android. If you or anyone could give me a quick walk through on what i need to do and where to go I will be very grateful.

I have currently have both IOS and Android devices.

Thanks. [import]uid: 23689 topic_id: 19880 reply_id: 77227[/import]

Right OK, well when you’ve got your project open in the simulator you press CMD+Shift+B (this is build for Android, unlike CMD+B which is build for iOS).

Then you put in required info, choosing the debug keystore if it is for testing purposes.

For the market you need a different keystore - I have a tutorial explaining exactly how to create one on Mac, see here; http://techority.com/2011/09/24/how-to-generate-a-key-for-your-android-app/

The actual upload process is very simple and all done through the dashboard once you have an Android developer account.

If you had additional questions please update the thread and I will assist how I can.

PS - Please keep in mind all of the above assumes you’ve upgraded to Pro. [import]uid: 52491 topic_id: 19880 reply_id: 77260[/import]

Hey Peach,

Thanks for your help!

When you say Android Developer account, what is that? I’ve looked at some forums and read about the android and the keystore always pops up. I have now have more of an understanding about it.

If I want to have my app on the market for 99 cents, is that what the developer account is for? Because for IOS you need to make a developer account, is it the same for android? Do you get the keystore by making the android developer account?

I’ve read your tutorial but i did not see any information on the price of the app. [import]uid: 23689 topic_id: 19880 reply_id: 77344[/import]

MichaelAssadi,
Same thing as Apple, you need a dev account from google. The google version is $25 and it’s for life.

I’m an iOS dev myself and I put my first app in the android app store 2 days ago. It’s frighteningly simple.

make a key store (follow what peach said)
build app for android with that key store
Get Dev Account
Click New App
Fill out the form
upload your app file on that form
hit save
In about 15 min your app is on sale in the android market.

No approvals, no testing, it’s just live and on sale.

@brad, just would like to thank you as Mrs. Peach!

Mate your list is a much better way to follow and get thing good with Android I believe.

I am thinking about also to be a Android dev but as the topic`s owner I do not know the right way to go as I did at Apple.
Best regards,
