Hi everyone,
I have an app nearing release but I seem to be having a pretty big problem… what I’m seeing is on a number of Android devices (all that I’ve tested on so far) the data size of the app grows large and quickly… my son was doing some testing for me and he came and showed me on his Nexus S 4G that Android (via app manager) was saying the app was using 202Mb of storage. However, the APK itself is only 12.4Mb!
Eventually, you start to see the “low space” warning… and my son’s phone crashed hard the other day and I had to restore to factory, although I have no evidence to suggest that was related, but it IS coincidental that he pointed that problem out just a few minutes before the phone was pretty well bricked for a while (had to ODIN the thing back to factory, couldn’t even get it to boot up to try and just wipe to factory).
I’m only saving a single file from the app, it’s a simple text file and I’ve confirmed it’s not growing (it’s like 500 bytes roughly), there’s not multiple copies or anything. So I don’t think it’s related to that. As far as I’m aware there’s nothing else in terms of files that should be produced by my game, save one thing, which I’ll come back to.
I’ve gone through the file system on my rooted Epic 4G, since I see the same happening, but I can’t find any large files associated with the app anywhere, whether under / or sd.
The only thought I had is that since the app is using storyboard, and I know in prior versions there was a problem where it was saving a screenshot with every transition, and since I use scenes and transitions quite a bit, maybe it’s still doing that and that’s the problem? The problem was about performance previously, which is no longer an issue, but I don’t know the details of that fix… but again, even if this was the culprit, I’d expect to be able to find those files somewhere and I can’t… does anyone know specifically where to look for those files (assuming they are still produced)?
FYI, I’m running build 845 now, so current (I guess 846 is available for us subscribers at the moment though). I’ll keep digging, but does anyone have any ideas? This is pretty much a showstopper at the moment.
Thanks,
