Android questions

Hi,

Regarding your plans for Android, can I ask a few questions… Unfortunately I am not on the Beta program so I don’t have access to the Android release notes… sorry if some of these questions are answered there…

  1. What version of Android do you support?

  2. With the iPhone/iPod the hardware and environment is well know as Apple control everything, with Android it is more like the Windows (well in fact Linux) in that the OS is running on a range of different hardware… So there a list of supported phones? I guess what I am asking is two things… 1) How to I tell prospective users what hardware the app will work on and 2) if I want to buy a phone for testing, which one do I buy?

  3. Are there native functions to tell if different hardware is available on the particular model of phone (like GPS), camera etc.

  4. Now this is a really dumb question I am sure, but I really know little about Android… Is there an equivalent to the App Store for ALL android phones or is there one from Google, one from HTC etc etc etc.

Thanks!

  1. Currently , 2.0.1 and 2.1. However, we’re looking at adding 1.6 as we are getting many requests.

  2. Right now we have a Droid and a Nexus One in-house. We’ll continue to acquire more hardware for testing and will publish the list.

  3. Great idea! We definitely need that.

  4. There’s the Android Market, http://www.android.com/market/
