Android trial? On PC?

Hi All,

I’d love to get something like Corona, but I develop for Android on the PC. Not an Apple-branded device in sight.

Is this going to be possible any time soon? I know that Corona for Android is in beta, but does that mean development will be able to be done on Windows or not?

Thanks!

If they get a windows version of Corona SDK for windows, then for sure this could be a winner here. [import]uid: 5712 topic_id: 774 reply_id: 1573[/import]

How much would you pay for this feature?

Difficult to say. My finances are ver yvery limited atm. I am very happy that I jumped on the 99 USD train now before the price goes up.

Generally I think it would be a good move to give the windows guys the ability to develop for Android. I can imagine, that there would be a lot more android developers on that OS than on OSX. But that is just a belly feeling. [import]uid: 5712 topic_id: 774 reply_id: 1633[/import]

Personally, I’d much rather see Corona priced on a per-platform basis. Meaning, $99 per platform (like the iPhone) and offering package deals as more platforms are added on.

This is a great way to keep your price point low in comparison to the other kits out there, but as a developer wants to expand to other platforms, they have to invest the money to do so.

I have to admit, the $99 price tag was definitely a consideration in going with Corona over other vendors. I likely would have ended up here regardless as I already am quite familiar with (and like) Lua, but the price point is a huge selling and attracting point.

Once you get them sucked into Corona, it only makes sense to add the other platforms for your apps.

I second that. $99 per platform with reduction for more Platforms. That sounds great!

Which platforms: OSX and Windows! Jsut kidding, I rather have everything working full featured before adding these platforms too! [import]uid: 5712 topic_id: 774 reply_id: 1642[/import]

Hehe.

Yah, I was specifically meaning platform to be the hardware we build our Apps for (iPhone/iPad/Android/etc).

When there’s a win32 build environment for Corona, I could see that being a charge as well… then again, offering it for free as part of the license could clearly be seen as yet another reason to use Corona instead of another kit.

Not sure where I’d price things for folks wanting to have the development environment on multiple machines with one license. For most toolkits (like Qt (a cross-platform C++ framework), for instance), it’s simply an honor system because locking down build environments is a pain for developers who often switch machines, work at home, work at work, work on the road, etc.

One simply relies on the fact that getting caught by the BSA has extremely harsh results.
