So i was wondering on where i could find an animation program that is free and allows me to make animations for the game. [import]uid: 64349 topic_id: 16190 reply_id: 316190[/import]

There is a free software package called Blender. Their website is:

http://blender.org

It’s very powerful, but it’s also very complicated (in my opinion). [import]uid: 67839 topic_id: 16190 reply_id: 60276[/import]

2D or 3D? Blender is 3D and as ElbowRoomApps said, Complicated.

there are very few good FREE ones

Blender isn’t that hard once you get used to its oddities. Me and some other guys made this in its game engine as part of the Dare to be Digital competition - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-swZUSILt8M

However that being said, it’s been 3 years since I touched it so I can’t speak for how complicated it is now. [import]uid: 92069 topic_id: 16190 reply_id: 60301[/import]

Oops, posted that under the wrong account. It’s me, GrahamRanson  [import]uid: 5833 topic_id: 16190 reply_id: 60302[/import]

What’s the coronaSDK equivalent in the graphics world?

By that, I mean what software makes it easy for a person with little or no experience, to make decent graphics. [import]uid: 67839 topic_id: 16190 reply_id: 60305[/import]

Blender is very powerful. What 3D package isn’t complicated? If you want to set your game apart from cartoonish 2D looking games, you can do some really cool 3D sprites in Blender.

Tons of tutorials online and large user community.

I tried Blender a couple months ago, but after about one whole week of intensely trying to learn it (to use it for the game I’m working on now), I decided I don’t have time to learn it, master it and create something decent quickly enough. It sure looks like a super powerful tool, though.

A long while back, I used TrueSpace , a 3D modeling, rendering and animation software. It’s free now (used to be paid product). You can find it here: http://www.caligari.com/

I used it to make lots of images (after I got over the initial learning curve, which wasn’t very much). I used it to make images for games. You can see what I made using TrueSpace here and here.

FYI, I haven’t used TrueSpace for ages, and after I stopped using it, it has changed. Now that I use Mac, (and I think it’s only for Windows, but I could be wrong) and I’m now rather comfortable with using Flash as my graphics/animation tool, I figured I’d stick with Flash. But if you have time to learn, and if you want something that’s not too complex and free and if you use Windows (unless it also works on Mac) you may consider TrueSpace. I really liked it when I was using it.

You reminded me of TrueSpace when it was launched around 1993/4 and ran on windows 3.1, I have known about it since then, there was also another neat product called Painter, which has since then disappeared.
