Announcement: Welcome Unity Ads + plugin pricing changes

On the heels of our recent announcement about the Corona Professional Bundle, we are pleased to inform you that the bundle just got even better! Unity Ads is now part of this fantastic monetization bundle which now includes five plugins!

  • AdMob
  • Chartboost
  • AdColony
  • Unity Ads (new)
  • Corona Splash Screen Control

Unity Ads is also available as an individual paid plugin for $199 per year.

To implement Unity Ads in your Corona-based apps, please begin by consulting the documentation.

Reduced paid-plugin and bundle pricing

In addition to adding Unity Ads to the Corona Professional Bundle, we are lowering the price of the individual monetization plugins to $199 / year each and we are lowering the price of the Corona Professional Bundle to $699 / year. If you already purchased one of the noted plugins (AdMob, Chartboost, or AdColony) or the Professional Bundle at the previous rates, please email support@coronalabs.com to request a refund of the difference.

Why are we making these changes? We have listened to the community over the past several weeks and, in the spirit upon which Corona was created, we believe these price points should be as fair as possible to indie developers and small studios. While we will continue to offer professional-level core technology and services which cater to larger and more established studios/businesses, the heart of Corona (and how most established studios first began) is in the creative force of indie developers.

We welcome your comments in the Corona Forums.

I have to congratulate the Corona Team, I was ranting about the pricing (as many others) but you guys have showed that you are really listening to your users and considering the best options. I’m still in favor of a monthly plan (my credit card is flooding) but lowering Admob from $500 to $200 is a giant improvement.

Thanks.

Thank you for listening, Corona Team. While $199 is still higher than what I am willing to pay ($99) for an individual plugin, this is still a very positive gesture and I will seriously think about subscribing in the near future. I would love to know if there is any plans to introduce Native Ads Express for Admob. I have implemented that before in my native apps and they are not really that different in implementation from the traditional banner. If you are guys are willing to implement that, then I am in again.

Huge news on all fronts, greatly appreciated. Couldn’t be happier to support an amazing team that takes community feedback to heart

Thanks from both me and my Christmas-weary credit cards.

OK now we’re talking.  I was not willing to pay $500 for a plugin, but I will bite at $200 for AdMob.  So that’s $200 more in your pockets. Hopefully more devs will bite at this price and it will be an overall net benefit for team Corona.

The fact that the old AdMob was a bit janky makes this a no brainer now.  Thank you for listening to all the responses from the devs.

I might even bite for the pro package as well once I can afford it.  I used to be a pro user a few years back and don’t mind paying for a quality product like Corona.  But $500 for one plugin was just too much, so thank you again.

P.S. Do you still plan on having a monthly subscription?  Also what if I purchase the AdMob plugin and want to upgrade further down the line?  I have also bought the splash screen plugin.  It would be nice to know how much upgrading will cost.

Best wishes to one and all at Christmas.

Big thanks to the Corona team for reducing the prices and listening to what the community has to say.

I still would very much like to see the Applovin plugin offered with a flat fee. As of right now it doesn’t make sense for big developers to use the plugin with the revenue share model.

Just one more suggestion. It will be really sweet if splash screen control plugin can be free for any subscription plan. It could be an early bird limited offer for those willing to commit to the subscription by the end of the month.  :)

Yeah i really have to commend Corona on this, they are listening to the community. Corona is such a great tool and obviously the corona team do care what people are needing from it, in return we really need to support corona on this  Cheers guys!

This is awesome! Unity Ads has been on my wish list for a long time. The documentation is a little light on details - how does it work with rewarded video and what are all the callback statuses for the listener function?

Hi @Vince,

As you may know, I’m primarily in charge of Corona documentation. The reason Unity Ads might seem “sparse” is because there’s not too much involved with using it… basically, “.init()”, check “.isLoaded()” (or event.phase of “loaded”), and then “.show()”. The ad event details are documented here, accessible from the “adsRequest” link on the main page.

I may be able to hash out a sample app for the community too, but not until after Christmas sometime.

Also, for those who might not have seen mention of it in the previous thread, I created a sample app for the new AdMob plugin, available on GitHub:

Take care,

Brent

I’m pretty sure this was the way it was intended at first but still, a good PR trick. Anyway, thanks for reducing the price and making the subscription more affordable. UnityAds is also a good addition to the plugins. Hopefully, you will add more plugins -single or bundled- to the PC / Mac side to extend Corona abilities on that front.

I was going to ask on the other topic but since it was locked, here it is: it seems that the paid AdMob plugin is more or less the same with the free plugin. Do you plan on updating the AdMob plugin to support all AdMob abilities since you are charging for it at the moment?

Also, you should know that the trust issue is still out there. I hope you guys can ensure the sustainability of the platform with this newly introduced Pro subscription and start building up a better Corona SDK.

Really, Thank you for listening, Respect.

I wish it was done much earlier.

just to let you know how harmful was the previous decision of sharing model, we started to reorganize our business and think about alternatives.

Make good product, and show people how good it’s, then will you have long customers line.

Make good product, and enforce people to use it, then they will hate it and run away.

Thank you and hope you all success.

@bdmadclown, lets not hijack this thread discussing the features of the new AdMob plugin. Feel free to open a specific thread for that question.

Rob

Hi.

I have one question.

I’m building a game and I’ve decided to use Appodeal as my ad mediation.

If I use Appodeal on my free account, can I still show ads from chartboost, admob and unityAds or do I have to disable those ad networks on my Appodeal’s account?

Hi @renatoff,

I believe you should contact Appodeal directly about this. Corona does not impose any restriction (that I know of) to use the plugins together, but Appodeal, as a mediation network, might. You should inquire to them specifically on these matters.

Best regards,

Brent

@Rob and Brent

I have another question. Do we have to pay for the plugin first before we can test it out on a device?

Good news!

First the splash screen, now the admob plugin.

Two things that were working just fine and you include them in a paid subscription. I wouldn’t care if you charged for a new feature, but removing old support to the things that are there, already working is totally a bad move.

Thank you guys for your support.
700 for this rebuilt new whole package… I’ll go all in on this one :+1:

YES, this is a relief.

I was disappointed by the initial pricing plan as this was simply too much for me to handle, so what it meant for me was quitting Admob and seeking alternatives (to both Admob and Corona). Of course I liked it better when it was $0, but since Corona is free and this is a great tool I will bite at that price.

Thank you for considering the feedback. Keep up the good work!

PS. If it was all a PR move (and the oldest trick in the book at that) then well done. You got us scared and now we’re thanking you for, in the end, increasing the price B) . Doesn’t change any of the above though.

PS2. Having this on a monthly plan (with a yearly commitment) would really smoothen things out.
