Any Indie Game documentary/movie inspired you to learn game development?

The “Indie Game” movie really stood out for me to motivate me to learn game development. The journey is not easy but there is always audience for good content out there.

This is the movie I was talking about : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indie_Game:_The_Movie

I’m too old and started when there were no documentaries about game dev but the first kind “documentary” I consumed was a book about Id, Carmack, Romero etc. - it’s called Masters of Doom and IMO it’s an absolute fantastic read.

I was already making games for many years, but still enjoyed From Bedrooms To Billions.

There’s a few others on these pages, but I haven’t seen them yet.

I’ve seen a few such documentaries, but they’ve never really been all that inspiring to me in terms of “Oh, I want some of that!”. They’ve been more educational and cautionary tales, I’ d say. :stuck_out_tongue:

I was simply inspired by the countless games that I’ve played, thinking that one day I’d like to make my own game. It was when I turned 20 that I actually realised that developing games is actually a profession and can be done for a living, which is when I got in the game.

I was born in 86 when home computers were becoming the next big thing, and my mother taught herself to code whilst pregnant with me, so my career was pretty inevitable really. I grew up playing games like Dizzy though and started to code myself in 96, so I’ve been hugely inspired by those early industry founders - the Oliver twins, Darling brothers, and so on.

I didn’t really see any related documentaries until much later, but it was probably the Oliver twins who featured in most of what I did see.
