You can always check the refurbished section on your country’s Apple store. I saw refurbished iPad 2’s going for $399 (or $419 here in Canada).

iPad and iPad 2 pricing is kinda funky right now.
On the local Craigslist, a bulk of the iPads for sale are the new ones being sold for above list price. People are buying two and trying to hock the 2nd one for bigger bucks.
iPad 1’s seem to be going for the low $200’s for the basic 16gb wifi model, maybe even get 32gb for that price range.
iPad 2’s are between $325 and $350 for the 16gb wifi, but most are steps up from that either with 3G or bigger storage.
Yet on eBay these 16gb wifi models are still selling for more than you can buy one new at the store. I found a few under the $399 price, but most were still in the $425-450 range. Now they may be including smart covers or other accessories, but still…

My iPad 1 I bought refurbished off the Apple website. This means it is factory refurbished. It comes fully sealed in an iPad box with all the extras and it looks brand new. We have some companies that do their own refurbishing here but it’s basically like buying a second hand one off Ebay. There may be scratches, dents etc. I also bought my MacBook refurbed off the Apple store. I highly recommend their refurbs. You honestly can’t tell the difference.
