Hey all, I’ve had Corona for just about a year now, but have been out of it since about last August. What put me out was Ansca. The lack of support, the lack of bug fixes, the lack of Android support, and now it seems Ansca completely got rid of the old forums? I couldn’t count how many people had what errors and received no answer from Ansca. When the iPhone5 came out with the bigger screen, you had to make a little hack to fit the background, and that’s how it seems Ansca and the Corona SDK was surviving, the community making all these little hacks/perks to get things to work, especially with advertising (ads were terrible back then, and it was a hack and a half to get AdSense to work) and you’d never hear from Ansca developers. Also, broken promises, for an example, pretty much all summer, Ansca had their “Level Editor - Coming Soon!” on their website, everyone waited, nothing happened, I don’t even see it right now. Has anything changed?
Hi Silky. We appreciate your feedback. Each of our customers are going to have varying expectations and apparently we had not lived up to your expectations.
First, just as an FYI, we have not been Ansca Mobile since last June where we changed our name to Corona Labs.
Yes, we did change our forums. This was done to give our customers a better forum experience with improved search, better spam handling, faster performance, etc. We ported the previous message base the best we could considering we were moving to a completely different forum software. We hope you have a better experience with it.
As far as a lack of support, bug fixes, and such, we have always strived to provide great support. In fact, I don’t know of any other company where you can report a bug one day and have it fixed in the next daily build or where the engineers take the time to get involved in your forum posts. Apple and Google are not going to give you that kind of support. Of course, there are going to be times where we miss here and there, but I think overall we are doing a good job. These are community forums and we do depend on the community to help answer questions as well. Hopefully with the new forums and increased staff, you will find fewer missed posts.
If you look at the release notes since last summer, you will see that Android has gotten a significant amount of attention, and at times perhaps more than iOS. We have recently added expansion support, In App purchases, Push Notifications, Goggle Licensing, etc. As far as bug fixes and features in general, you can see in the release notes for the latest public build how busy we have been:

We have also increased our staff since last summer. We have more engineers on the iOS and Android side. We have dedicated engineers for adding features that are cross platform as well. We’ve increased people in the forums and working on tutorials and guides and we also added a Cloud Service. It’s been a very busy year here and even more good things are to come.
As for hacks, the iPhone 5 hack is courtesy of Apple. That’s how they chose to make it work. We had a period last year were we were at the mercy of our platform vendors. We had to deal with the new iPhone 5 and the quirks it created, iOS 6.0 and 6.1, new Nooks and Kindle Fires that made us stop and have to make changes because those services changed. It takes considerable resources to keep up with the vendors.
Hopefully you will find that we’ve done a lot in the past year. I feel its an exciting time to be a member of the community.
Last I checked in the Android dev console, it said my App was compatible with “1829 devices”. A year ago it was only 1017.
So, things are picking up
