How do I put my app onto my phone without putting it onto the App Store.
Just put it inside some folder in your phone and install it. (Or through mac)
Jedi how do I put into a folder and install it?
You need to provide more information when you are asking everyone a question. What kind of phone do you have? The process is different between Apple and Android.
On android you connect phone to pc and open on pc new drive which appeared (your phone). Then open one of phone’s memories (internal or sd card). Drag and drop your .apk file into folder you want. On the device open file explorer and navigate to your file. Click on it to install (you can be prompted to change your settings to allow instalation of non-store apps)
Please see the following guides:
Android: http://docs.coronalabs.com/guide/distribution/androidBuild/index.html#installapp
iOS: http://docs.coronalabs.com/guide/distribution/iOSBuild/index.html#installapp
What?! I’m doing it all the time - drag & drop and install
Is your phone rooted?
Not, and I’ve been doing it on other not rooted Android devices
Can you explain how to do this? Many android devices do not mount as a drive that you can copy too. I know my Kindle Fire and Nook do but I had to install a download manager app on the KF to access the download folder which in the end is more work than typing “adb install pathto.adk”
I would say ‘normaly’ Just connect Android device to Windows computer. It will install some drivers if needed first time. My phone is opened as external device (multimedia device) so I can open it and have access to all folders inside. Using tablet, I first have to open bar with information about connected USB and there I go to screen to turn on memory sharing. When clicked, it is detected by pc.
So I just drop my apk inside some folder using computer and next using file explorer on device I install app. As normal exes
Have I broken Matrix? I’ve been doing it using not rooted devices and difference computers with free Corona Simulator.

Didn’t have idea - thought it was normal behaviour. Tested on latest phones, ‘older’ tablets and even some no-names
So is something wrong?
You left me curious
I usually do as piotrz55 as well. Maybe it’s a different behavior about external devices between mac and windows.
I believe Rob uses mac, from his ‘mount’ term.
I connect android to win7 just fine. Havent tried on mac though…
I have the galaxy s4. There is a setting in the phone that lets you run apps from unknown sources. Just toggle that on and drag and drop from windows to a folder on your phone then click the app from inside the phone and it will install for you. If you have security apps it may slow down the process a bit. I had to disable lookout security because it would take forever to scan the app.
Another method would be to email your self the app and once downloaded its a 1 click install.
Downloading is the same as puting into folder
Toggle to run apps from unknows sources will only allow installation process.
The problem is that acording to Rob and documentation what we usually do is ‘not possible’ because he states that android do not allow opening device as external drive or something like this. However for us it does
U need an apple developer account
For?
Okay, perhaps our language in the guide is a bit harsh. If you have Window 7 or later (or perhaps Vista) and you can set it up to recognize an MTP device, then it will mount an Android device as a Drive. Windows XP needs an MTP driver which Microsoft seems to have killed.
Now on a Mac, my Google Nexus 7 does not mount as a drive, but you can get an app that runs on the Mac that will transfer files from it. My Kindle Fire and Nook mount as drives and can copy files over, but you still need to install a download manager package on the devices to make it work.
I’ll check into updating the guide.
