Apple non-communication: any experience?

I just had an update (to deal with iPad 2.5) rejected by Apple.
What is says is ‘only shows a black screen’
They have even sent me a bitmap of a black rectangle so that I can see what one looks like.

Now, this build is working fine on my devices. I don’t get any errors.

Ive requested more information about the device and config they did the testing upon, and had no response.
This is 9 days since I submitted the update, and owners of the new iPad who have bought the old version (which they can’t use) are getting annoyed, while those who are waiting are getting restless.

From the communications I have had with Apple testers in the past, it seems possible that English is not their first language.
I can cope with that.
But no communication at all leaves me powerless.

Has anyone else had similar experiences?

Sorry to hear that @Jeff, but what do you think about calling them directly? Would it be “very impossible” regarding your needs and principally your own customers that are getting “boring”?
Just an idea btw.
Luck!

Hmm.
I thought using the resolution centre *is* calling them directly?

I confess I do not understand your second sentence, but thanks for the wish for luck.

No worry Jeff.

By the way, yes, the resolution center on your member center would be helpfull I believe.
Yes, good luck!

Cheers,

I believe Rodrigo’s second sentence was simply encouraging you to call (as in phone) Apple directly as your customers are getting fed up, etc.

In any case - resubmit the exact same thing if you are being told something you know isn’t true RE errors. They may have made a mistake and then the app will breeze through.

Else, do call them - it can help. [import]uid: 52491 topic_id: 24156 reply_id: 97499[/import]

@Peach - you`re awesome. Got it! Thanks and Luck for Jeff solving it. [import]uid: 89165 topic_id: 24156 reply_id: 97513[/import]

Hi,

I used to got black screen reply from apple. The reason is that I assume apple will have same country setting like mine. And my code has a bug when users have different language setting. Just for your reference.

Just chiming in to say I’ve been in the same situation as bobyeh - and have now learned to test for a few different language settings before releasing an app. I got a black screen because of this, and it took a while before I figured the problem out. So - even though it could be a million different things - it’s one of the variables that can differ on the devices, so it’s worth checking out! >>And my code has a bug when users have different language setting. Just for your reference.<<

>>have now learned to test for a few different language settings before releasing an app<<

Very interesting.
That kinda supports my suspicion about non-english speaking testers, but it doesn’t invalidate the test.
I can not imagine any code that is language dependant, but: how do you test with other language settings?

open the settings app and change the language

D’oh!
Of course.
Well, happy to report thats not the issue.
Italian, Polish, English… [import]uid: 108660 topic_id: 24156 reply_id: 97534[/import]

Hey, Jeff, which Corona build are you using for the release? And about the “black screen”, can you tell what it should look like instead? If the “black screen” bit is where text should’ve appeared, then, based on the input from the others above, I’d imagine the issue is related to some text/language. However, if the whole screen went black (not just text area), do you know which screen that went black? Is it the very first screen (after the Default.png)? Or is it that the Default.png never appeared and simply black screen appeared? If it’s a specific screen that went black, I imagine it would make it easier to narrow down the culprit.

Naomi

P.S. If you can’t reproduce the issue that Apple found, you might really want to contact/call Apple and get the details to sort this out. [import]uid: 67217 topic_id: 24156 reply_id: 97573[/import]

I don’t have a default.png
I transition in a background image which acts as a menu.

cmrapps has kindly accepted a build for his UUID and confirms its not an iPad3 issue.
Ive tried 7 languages.

build 772
xcode 4.3

Ive resubmitted and asked for an expedited review.fingers crossed.

Good luck! Let us know when Apple accepts it – so we all know it was some sort of mix up on Apple’s side and had nothing to do with your build.

Naomi [import]uid: 67217 topic_id: 24156 reply_id: 97598[/import]

Just to let you know…
Resubmitted the same app, the only change being that I uncommented a couple of print statements on the main.lua file so that it was demonstrably a different byte size.
(So now the log will have some pointless entries)

I asked Apple to do an expedited review.
2 days later they agreed, and its now live on the app store.

Hooray!!!

Congrats! Glad to hear it worked out.

That`s nice to hear @Jeff!

Congrats!

Thanks for updating this, really happy to hear it got sorted for you  [import]uid: 52491 topic_id: 24156 reply_id: 98178[/import]

Update:
After the release of the new version, about 50 people have updated, and maybe 15 new customers.
Of which, one has emailed to say ‘black screen’
And their setup is exactly the same as mine: iPad 2 , 32Gb, British English language, iOS 5.1

Dang. :frowning:

What technical sorcery is this? I hope you find out what the deal is, I always wonder about this crazy stuff when I go to release soon.

Keep us posted!

Best of luck!
