Apple review news?

Hi guys!

I received following note while preparing my app for review on itunes connect.

Game Licenses in China Chinese law now requires online games to secure an approval number from the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film, and Television. You can enter your game’s approval number and date in the Notes field of the App Review Information section. To learn more, view the full text of the regulation.

When you click on a link, you are forwarded to all chinese language webpage.

Do you have any idea what to do here?

Tnx!

G

Sounds like one needs to get hooked up with a Chinese publisher now to get into the Chinese market…

Can we proceed with the App submission for review without Chinese “approval number” ?

Or without approval number app will be rejected?

It seems to only be impacting online games. There may be an option on the Chinese government website to show the page in English (I’ve not looked). Or you an choose to not distribute your game in China.

Rob

I am not sure to select or unselect China. My game is not online one (it will be played localy on the users device…).

Then you probably don’t need to worry about it, unless for some reason Apple thinks your game is an online one. You might want to Google the message and see if other developers are running into a similar issue.

Rob

Unless you have a Chinese publisher for your games then give up getting published in China.

Adrian, even for SANDBOX game?

Game is not played ONLINE…

Only online features I have are ads, iaps and game centre.

With this new regulation, everything gets thrown out the window and now all new games will need to have Government approval before being added to an app store. But that’s not all, even games that were made before July 1st need to get approval from the Government before October 1st 2016 or they can risk their games being taken down. In other words, the whole situation is about to get a lot more messy. Lets take a look at these regulations in a bit more detail.

Not good news for community… tnx.

Who gives me approval number at the end?
How much time and money it takes to get that?

After reading that article, you’re going to be out at least 1-2 smartphones that you have to ship to them. You have to preload your app on a device (and if you want both iOS and Android, thats two different devices) and a bunch of paper work.  Then if you qualify for the simplified process (copyright owned by a Chinese individual or company), it doesn’t violate any of their laws and it has no story line, then you might get a 3 week turn around after they get the devices in hand. If you don’t qualify for the simple process (and most wont), then you’re looking at a 3 month process and have to basically have a perfect submission.  The article didn’t say if you got your devices back or not.

The article referred to working with publishers who have experience navigating this new policy and the fees to do that could get up in to the $3000-5000 range.

Rob

In case you do not have a hit game, I see no point in trying to go thru the process.
