Apple

Hello all,

I know to submit an app through the apple store you need some type of mac computer.  I’m planning on buying the mac mini, but I just don’t know which I need to buy does it have to be brand new and top of the line or should I get an older model, or maybe refurbished?

What about ram, do I need a lot or is the least expensive mac mini okay?  I’d like to create an app sometime, but I think I’ll be only working on low / no tech apps for the foreseeable future.

Appreciate any help,

Thank you

You could use a cloud mac, if you don’t really want to be 100% on the mac platform all the time.

Having said that, eBay, the Apple website Refurbished section and many others have plenty of affordable macs.

The mac mini is now very long in the tooth and hasn’t been updated in something like four years, so you might be onto a loser if you expected it to run the latest OS version with all the trimmings. I’m not saying it wouldn’t work, but it might be very painful - check Apple’s macOS compatibility list.

Sorry for the lack of references or links!

DLuck,

I use a mac mini (late 2014)  2.6GHz Intel Core i5,  8GB 1600 MHz DDR3,  and it works great.  I am running macOS Sierra ver 10.12 and that OS I “think” it can be updated to (the highest presently I think is High Sierra 10.13) … I just haven’t bothered to do so yet.

I ‘think’ horacebury is correct, and this model I have is probably the latest updated version of the mac mini.

I would suggest a newer model as well. Apple tends to release new operating systems once per year and they do eventually drop support for certain hardware (example my iPad 4 can’t upgrade to iOS 11). So the newer you buy, the longer it will last you.

Second the buying new model advise.  I have a mac mini gen 2 that is no longer suitable because it won’t support latest OS X.

I use my MBP for builds now, but laptops are beggar all useless as desktop machines, so my desk is crowded w/ PC, MBP, ATV, three monitors (for various devices) and mobile devices. So much money spent just to dev apps. :frowning:

PS - Apple really needs to get on the ball and release a new Mini.

Those darn Macs!

Thank you much
