AppStore reviews not always submitted?

Hi everyone,

A friend of mine tried a couple of times from his iPhone (on the 25th and once again on the 27th) to submit a review via AppStore, but the review doesn’t show up. He texted me saying that in the AppStore he clicks the submit button but it doest’n seem to actually submit it.

Has someone seen this too before? Any idea? Is this a known bug in AppStore or something?

Well one situation I can think of is that if the app was redeemed by a promo code then Apple won’t accept reviews from that person. [import]uid: 87138 topic_id: 22586 reply_id: 89999[/import]

I occasionally see app store weirdness.

My sister and her fiancee both downloaded one of my apps (which is free), both like it and gave it a review… My sisters review shows up but his doesn’t …

Also for all my apps (all have ratings), if I take a look at the same one I mentioned above in the app store it always says “No Ratings”. Even though there are about 30 ratings for it overall and about 6 in my country alone.

Another thing that can trip you up is if you have apps that were loaded from different iTunes account than the one you’re currently logged in with.

The only thing I can say at this point is that it’s weird. It’s not a promo code and it’s the same account. My friend just tried it again, nothing happens. It looks like the review is submitted on the phone, no error or something. The review screen disappears but the review never shows up.

I noticed the same thing once or twice before when I submitted reviews but didn’t pay much attention to it.

I’ve seen this “just happen” sometimes. It seems to last a few days, you try again and it works.

It’s a pain because I’ve written several thorough reviews of Corona apps and then they never show up >.

I contacted Apple about it, and they aren’t aware of any problems at this point. On my phone this happened only once. I remember that there was no error message, it just seemed like pushing the submit button didn’t do anything. Don’t remember if the screen closed or not afterwards.

If anyone can share the user experience when the review submission doesn’t work, I can channel the info back to the Apple support folks.

Actually I do recall one other thing that has had an impact in the past, although I haven’t been out of date for a bit so can’t say whether or not it has been an issue in very recent times too, but - if you were running an out of date version of iTunes and tried reviewing on your computer then that could also cause the review not to go through properly. (Last I heard of this was last year.)

And it appears reviews only show up in the country they are entered.
And they vanish if you update your app.

And I’m sure that more than one app has ended up sending reviews to Peach’s apps because they use the app code that was in the example review code, instead of replacing it with the code for their own app. (Or the second app released is still using the code for the first app) [import]uid: 108660 topic_id: 22586 reply_id: 90433[/import]

In iTunes Connect you can see all reviews listed nicely for all countries. I have never updated an app yet, will the comments vanish in ITC as well?

So far it’s totally random and non predictable, maybe some network connectivity clinch, no clue.

Anyway, does someone have data points on download/review ratio? I know that this really depends on the app and how it integrates the “review process” but I just want to get some data points to understand this better.

Mine is about 2500 downloads and 7 reviews now after a few days, which strikes me a bit low. Same game on WP7 has 12000 downloads and 170 reviews worldwide with a comparable user experience around review integration. I don’t have data points on Android yet.

Comments for older versions don’t disappear unless the user reviews a newer version, to the best of my knowledge :slight_smile:

My game got a website review with a 4/5 rating. And now the reviewer can’t submit a review on App Store. :frowning:

I tried myself and it took 3 attempts for my review to submit… Ouch…

in ITunes connect, the older version doesn’t even show up any more.
The old reviews aren’t visible.
