Are offline builds truly independent from Corona Servers?

Lately I’ve been wondering what happens if one day Corona Labs was no more… I know its a terrible thought and I sincerely hope no such day is ever upon us but what if…

From a business continuity point of view, I need to know how I would continue reaping the benefits of my investment. Learning the API, learning how to use Corona SDK in various situations, widgets etc. All of this could be gone in a moment given the subscription based model and internet based build servers etc.

So my question is whether the Enterprise License would protect its user against this unlikely yet possible situation. I apologize in advance if this question ruffles some feathers. Please let me know if you can build with Enterprise offline mode in a totally disconnected way even when Corona servers are unreachable.

Thank you very much for the confirmation.

I’m interested in the answer too.

I think you can try enterprise free for 30 days. so give it a try. download it disconnect from internet and try to build

Isn’t it easier for someone from Corona Labs simply provide a one liner answer?

“Interesting” question .

You need access to their servers to activate Enterprise. You can however do offline builds after that. I’ve successfully built apps/plugins without Internet connection. However I don’t know if they have periodic checking of the Enterprise license in the background…

In the unlikely event that this scenario would act out, I’d guess that CL would release a last “special” version that has no activation requirement.

However, we’ll need an official CL response to clear this up.

@ingemar, indeed Pro and Basic as well has the yearly activation so no doubt we would have that hurdle but assuming I was an activated Enterprise license holder I wonder what the situation would be like… Lets hope this question catches the attention of someone from Corona Labs who can provide an authoritative answer once and for all. Thank you very much for your input.

Hi guys - Ingemar is exactly right in how things work. Today you require an initial activation, but everything to do with building is offline after that. I do believe Enterprise checks our server periodically to get subscription status.

Now, in the *very* unlikely event the company is “no more”, we would of course make provisions so that the activation does not stand in the way of using the product offline.

Let me know if that answers your question.

David, thank you very much for your kind response. May it never be required but this is wonderful to hear. Long live Corona Labs.
