Are these compatible with Corona SDK?

Hello all,

Can you help me choose an android device to test Corona apps to?

I have these three in mind which I find really cheap, but I wonder if they are really compatible:
Cynosure - Android 2.3 Tablet with 7 Inch Touchscreen and WiFi (4GB)
and
Ingenium 2.3 - Android 2.3 Tablet with 7 Inch Touchscreen (WiFi, Camera, HDMI, 4GB)
and
Marvel Android 2.3 Tablet with 7 Inch Capacitive Screen (WiFi, 8GB)

Thanks [import]uid: 111017 topic_id: 23786 reply_id: 323786[/import]

Hi,
likely any Android device you can get will be compatible with Corona.

Some of the Chinese devices are not certified by Google, and therefore do not have the Android Play (Market). And use some other third party market. (those you listed say they use Google market but double check)

Note that Corona supports Android 2.2. [import]uid: 119459 topic_id: 23786 reply_id: 95774[/import]

the device also needs to have arm7 architecture. many low-end android devices are still arm6, so you might want to check that out. [import]uid: 80100 topic_id: 23786 reply_id: 95818[/import]

ARMv7 and 2.2 are requirements and as far as I can tell none of these appear to be ARMv7.

Sorry :frowning: [import]uid: 52491 topic_id: 23786 reply_id: 95873[/import]

Hm, I checked the processors. For example Cynosure in the specifications has VC882 Embedded 1GHz ARM Cortex A8 32-bit processor . Then I searched for this processor and found that it is ARMv7 but I couldn’t trust me on this.

And I’m a bit confused right now :-S . Can you recommend a device that worked with you, preferable the cheapest that you know? [import]uid: 111017 topic_id: 23786 reply_id: 95885[/import]

They are all ARM 7

You need more than for your app to “run”. You want it to run well.

I would recommend starting with a Kindle Fire. That way you can test Android and Amazon compatibility with one device, and it only costs $200.

I also wouldn’t buy a device that doesn’t specifically point out it has armv7. [import]uid: 36054 topic_id: 23786 reply_id: 95901[/import]

If they are running android 2.3 then they pretty much have to be armv7 I believe (I am a total Android N00b!)

The options I’m looking at are:

  1. Pick up a used Motorola Droid or other smart phone.
  2. Pick up a NOOK ($135 for a factory referb)
  3. Pick up a Kindle Fire ($199)

I think based on the price and other specs I’d be cautious of the options you listed, I’m no expert on this but IIRC Cortex A8 is some kind of cut down version? Hrm. Need to look it up.

I’d second Rob’s suggestions; or if looking at phones rather than tablets maybe HTC Incredible S. [import]uid: 52491 topic_id: 23786 reply_id: 96023[/import]

My Samsung Galaxy Tablet uses the Cortex A8 CPU

Cortex A8 is pretty popular CPU

Useful links, thanks csantill

Apparently I’m thinking of something else. (Goes to show how much I know about Android devices!)

I’d still be a little cautious based on the price. [import]uid: 52491 topic_id: 23786 reply_id: 96035[/import]
