Art / Graphics / Designs Community

Hi I thought it might be a good idea to start (Did not see anything related) a Topic on Graphic Designs for Applications. Make story short when I started using Corona SDK I had never coded in my life 0% Programming knowledge and in about 4 months I created Dragging Physics. I felt smart releasing my own application world wide! True of the matter is my main problem is not knowing to Draw so My app could had use much better graphics then myself creating shapes. I decided to study more and hire a designer recently and my next app is looking MUCH better. So I notice maybe we developers have great ideas but consist of the same problem no drawing skills and let me tell you graphics play a major role in your app. (lets not argue about doodle jump not being impressive drawing skills and being so successful) Yes maybe you can make an amazing app with [Cheap Looking] Graphics and it can be a hit but from my experience graphics make a huge impression on your app.

==== Designers ====
I recently came across this great video, he shows 3 amazing website to get free or cheap artwork for your app and the art is amazingly good. Please check it out if this topic interest you!

==== Creative Commons Attribution License ====
If you never heard of Creative Commons Attribution License basically in a nutshell you can use the art as long as you credit the artist / designer.
Example: Art By: [Name of Artist]

==== Idea ====
I thought it might be a good idea to post here or create a forum were Designers that want to expose their art under Creative Commons Attribution License or sale their Art or maybe this is a good place to meet designers that want to work together? I know many developers cant do both (Program / Art) Im one of them so hunting for art can be frustrating but there is A LOT of talented Artist who we never heard of and maybe this is the time!

PS: Please share opinions, links, feel free to post your mind :wink:

One thing I wanted to point out and maybe im missing something here and not trying to get anyone in trouble but as far as I know [Creative Commons Attribution License] usually you credit the Artist for their Art (Is the least you can do imo) And I recently noticed there is no credits in Walkabout who used the art from Lost Garden. Im just curious if im missing the point of this License or is this just a common courtesy thing? Or maybe they do have credits on the artist and I just cant see them.

Leiva,
I think it’s a great idea. I’m a graphic designer but like you have no formal programming experience, other than a Hypercard class in college and being able to read HTML and a little Actionscript and XML.

It took me about two months to get up to speed on Lua, but a lot of it is still Greek to me. Hopefully I progress to your level one day soon. [import]uid: 68619 topic_id: 17535 reply_id: 66683[/import]

@ marlon8

Honestly I been programming nearly 1 year but I took maybe 4 months break after I release my 1st app I recently got back into programming about a month ago been going pretty hard on it My newest projects are coming out a lot better then my 1st *study + investing in a designer* seems to change my apps drastically. Im no pro believe me I learn something new every day but shoot me an email maybe I can help you in programming and you can help me out with designs I will always credit you!

*EDIT: Have just edited your email so it isn’t a link, posting it in full can get you added to spam lists :wink: Peach [import]uid: 30314 topic_id: 17535 reply_id: 66687[/import]

I usually have an about screen to provide credits or attribution or copyrights as warranted. One more screen to get a small app shipped is sometimes one screen or feature too far. It should not be!

Sometimes credit or attribution is required and sometimes it’s just the decent thing to do.

Coincidentally I have been looking into hiring a graphic artist and shocked that the quotes are coming in about 2-3 times more than I expected. It’s not the artists, it is because I underestimated the amount of work they put in. But it is true, everyone says the art is more important than gameplay if you are trying to make a sale. Most people look at the screenshots of a game first. [import]uid: 31262 topic_id: 17535 reply_id: 66717[/import]
