Nice article. A friend and I were just talking about the bar level movement due to the increased horsepower… exciting and scary… [import]uid: 21331 topic_id: 23563 reply_id: 94525[/import]

I’ve been playing Real Racing 2 HD on the new iPad since I got it. It’s crazy how you can get such a good game for $5 ( I got it when there was a price drop, it’s $10 now). [import]uid: 82699 topic_id: 23563 reply_id: 94797[/import]

Good observation, I especially like: “The barrier to entry is very low, but the barrier to succeed can by high”.
AppStore is currently a huge mess with hundreds of games published daily, and the chances of exposure for indie developers are decreasing every day, especially the more the media attention of likes of Touch Arcade and similar sites tend to cluster more and more around either AA contributions to already familiar genres (here’s new tower defense for you guys, which is a bit of gameXXX mixed with gameYYY and graphic feel of gameZZZ), or big budget developers or well established indie ones (like dozens of posts about Vlambeer’s SuperCrateBox - well I certainly LOVE their work and no complaining, just mentioning as an example).

Not even mentioning that AAA freemium games are starting to be a standard and very soon people will dismiss the very idea of paying >>anything<< for a game.

@nosheet I agree, I’ve only recently started developing for the iOS and it didn’t take me long to realize how competitive the market is. Having a good game is not enough anymore, even a great game has low chances of succeeding. I’ve seen MANY games that had potential, and were truly awesome and unique but ended up disappearing among the +800,000 apps. If some of these games were published a few years back (2008-2009), I’m quiet sure they would have been a success. I think the reason some games like Angry Birds and iShoot were successful is because they entered the market early. You don’t hear of Indie success stories anymore, I think the last Indie success story I’ve heard of is Tiny Wings. [import]uid: 82699 topic_id: 23563 reply_id: 94882[/import]

I really like your article and i agree to what you are saying. there just so much games on the Appstore everyday that makes it difficult toa actually find the game you really want, plus the fact that some of the games are not even being recognized already. Its just so sad that indie game developers really have a difficult time to get recognized seen if they have really cool games because some games get all the advertisements and all that people get hooked to even if some are really not that good. I would just like to point out that although the article talks about how indie developers have many obstacles to overcome in terms of getting exposure, it also discusses how we are lucky. We have more opportunities to reach a wide audience than ever before. [import]uid: 82699 topic_id: 23563 reply_id: 99244[/import]
