Audio Stops When Too Much Is Happening On-Screen

The audio in my game drops when there is too much stuff happening on screen. It’s the background music that stops (even though I reserve a channel for it). Any idea why this would happen? The frame rate drops to around 20-30 during these intense action parts, but it’s not like anything else wonky happens. The background music just completely stops (all sound effects still work). I can get the audio to resume by calling audio.play again for the background music.
