Austin TX Developer Group

I posted this in “Game Development”, but I think this is a more appropriate forum for the topic. Not cross-post spamming, but I don’t see a way to delete the other post.

Hey there,

Would any developers in the Austin area be interested in hooking up for a Meetup.com-style monthly Corona meeting group?

The goals for the group would be:

* Show your projects created with Corona

* Discussion of techniques

* Wrangling LUA, OOP techniques, code layout/structure

* Sharing snippets

* Socialize with other independent developers, enjoy TX beer/BBQ/TexMex/sushi/whatever

* Seek out possible collaboration opportunities if you’re looking for that

Anyone interested? I can setup a Google Group for us or a Facebook group, and we can plan our first meetup.

Hope to hear from you, (just reply below),

I’ll be interested…but I’m still a noob, not sure how much I could contribute

Add me as a friend on FB: rdcube

Let’s try to find the time and place to meet.

I’m in…let us know the group info and where our first meetup is. Look forward to meeting you guys. [import]uid: 6175 topic_id: 6121 reply_id: 21066[/import]

Great! No worries, RD…we’ll all learn together. I have only been using it a week or so now. I’ve developed with LUA before, in my previous life as a console video game programmer, so it’s not altogether foreign to me.

I have friend-requested you rdcube and am in the process of setting this group up on FB. Dgaedcke, E-mail me your FB user name (jnagle at dreamblue dot com) and I’ll add you as well.

If no one has objections to FB, let’s run it on there. Their groups have message boards and events, etc. Should work fine.

I was wondering if there were any other developers in Austin using Corona haha.

I’m brand new to Corona and Lua, the only programming languages I have had prior experience in, before this has only been PHP, HTML, CSS, some JAVA, some MYSQL, etc haha

But I’d be interested in this =] [import]uid: 14940 topic_id: 6121 reply_id: 21116[/import]

I have moved the group to Google so that everyone can access it.

The URL for the group is

http://groups.google.com/group/austin-corona-developers-group

OK…LAST time, I promise…

Google groups is not very cool either. I’ve found BigTent.com and that seems to be very flexible and cool. Here is the URL:

Hi John,
I think we should meet first before we decide what to do as far as groups, participation and such.

I sent you an email.

Thanks,
RD [import]uid: 7856 topic_id: 6121 reply_id: 21280[/import]

Hey RD,

Haven’t seen your e-mail yet, where did you send it?

And yeah, I wanted to have a place for us to congregate virtually so we could figure out where and when to meet. The primary needs of a group are to coordinate face-to-face meetups, and have a private area for people to exchange code/messages/whatever when the group isn’t meeting. The BigTent account I set up seems to meet those needs nicely.

If you could go ahead and respond to the invite I sent, we can at least get that far. If we decide after meeting that some other on-line group service (google, FB, yahoo, whatever) works better, I have no problem scrapping it all and moving it again if that’s what the group wants.

Thanks RD!

Cool, just saw this thread. I’ve been hacking away at a game and it’d be nice to chat with other Corona devs. I signed up at BigTent.

Hi Jon, great! That makes 5 of us now…hopefully we’ll get some more.

Read the forum post about meeting and feel free to reply with suggestions for meeting time/location.
