Autolan - Need help in choosing a server

Ok! I purchased Autolan. And got my multiplayer game working using the server provided by M.Y.Developers.

Next thing, i tried to run the php script in my own server.
I tried dreamhost, godaddy, hostmonster and amazon’s servers.
But couldn’t get it to work.

The M.Y Developers guys were so helpful in trying to get this to work. But to no avail.
SO ANYONE WHO GOT AUTOLAN TO WORK : please share your insights.
One among many things I need to know is do I need a virtual private server to get this to work?

I would be interested too.

Simple question: how can i set up a host, and connect to it by internet, not the same LAN?

Where did you get those scripts from, is there any documentation?

You’ll need to mail those guys.
Multiplayer across internet is still in beta stage.

Hello Satheesh,

Thank you for trying so hard to get the issue resolved. We are glad you finally got everything working. We are thinking about getting a dedicated server for AutoLAN to address this issue. It will be set up pretty much the same as the Beta test server which means you will not need to set up anything yourself. Just letting anyone that stumbles on this post know about this option.

I have my hosting with 1&1 with the Unlimited Linux package, but after uploading the server-end PHP files, I later determined that PHP sockets are not enabled, and not permitted by their terms of service.

I checked around and still haven’t found other hosting providers that allow it.

000freewebhost.com and freewebhostingarea.com were two places I found that supposedly have sockets enabled, and I signed up for free trials, and the PHP info show that sockets are enabled, but I couldn’t get the script to run on either site.

I’d pay for their monthly service if I can verify that the script works.

MYD, can you verify? Am I missing something?

Thanks, Satheesh. What server spec did you pick? Is the entry level X1 model at $5.95 per month sufficient for AutoLAN’s needs? What customizations do I need to choose?
